Low temp/sweaty head/twitchy/pale

Ds - nearly 4, with a genetic condition - seems to have problems with the heat and with extreme cold. Last night when he was asleep, I noticed that he was twitching, and he felt very clammy around his head. I took his temperature (ear thermometer) and it was 35.1 - his skin felt quite cool, but as I say he was clammy with sweat, his pulse also seemed quite fast. He is alaysquite pale, but seemed even paler and i noticed a blue line coming from corner of mouth to chin seemed more noticable than usual. I sat with him and watched and noticed a couple more small jerky movements, his temperature stayed low for about an hour, but the twitching stopped. His temperature is usually around 36.3. Does anyone have any ideas what this could be??

Low blood pressure maybe?

A low temp indicates infection so you need to get him looked at.

I hope he's OK.

A low temp indicates infection (as well as a high temperature). You need to get him checked over.

I don't know what is causing this in your son. My daughter has a metabolic disease and when it isn't well controlled, she sometimes has episodes just like what you've described. It tends to happen when she has an illness or has been exercising hard.

Does your son have a diagnosis, and is a specialist treating him? It might be wise to get in touch soon instead of waiting for your next regularly scheduled appointment.

Thankyou both.

I don't think it is an infection as ds is showing no other symptoms, although I might take a urine sample into the drs just in case, as he has had urine infections without any other symptoms.

Saracen, ds has a possible diagnosis of Kleefstra Syndrome, and I know there can be problems with metabolic function, he has just had a full blood screen, which I would have thought would have shown any issues - do you know which specific tests they do for metabolic function?

My other concerns were that it was either some sort of seizure or related to the small hole he has in his heart, he isn't due another scan until December.

I will call his paed on Mon.

No, sorry, I don't know about testing metabolic function.

I was thinking at first that the twitching sounds seizure-like - it is for my daughter - but because your son was asleep at the time I'm not so sure. After all, a certain amount of twitching happens in normal REM sleep; I've sometimes noticed quite vigorous twitching in healthy sleeping people.

But the other symptoms you described definitely aren't normal. I hope the paediatrician has some ideas of how to check it out!
