DS (7) has AS. I'm really struggling getting him to do his homework. If it's maths he'll do it no problem, but any thing else, no chance.
We had a massive meltdown last night and again this morning.

I can't physically force him to write so what do I do??

Write for him? Type for him? Get him to dictate it if you have an ipad with an inbuilt microphone. Some kids with AS really struggle with language, or it could be he has sensory issues or other OT difficulties that make writing a huge effort. The fact he is prepared to do Maths shows it is not the homework, nor the motivation but rather there is a reason behind his meltdown. I hate homework because it is such hard work for me - never mind the kids Sad.

He won't even offer any ideas, he says he doesn't understand. I've explained it best I can.
He loves maths and finds it very easy but hates literacy, drawing etc.

Aarggh!

He mightn't - that is what is so scary. It isn't unusual for kids with ASD to decode well - read the words - but not understand what they are reading. So, comprehension type questions are horrible because they are asking them to do tasks that are beyond them or require a massive amount of effort. Has the school tested his comprehension?

Drawing requires a creativity/imagination/bent/motivation that he mightn't have. Can he copy? Will he use an ipad drawing ap?

There is one thing you can do - model the answer and as you do explain what you are thinking as you answer the question. Then, see can he reproduce the answer or a version of it.

I so get your Aarggh. There are days, I simply do not do homework. I have become very hard faced and just tell the teachers we didn't do it.

Will try to speak to the SENCO. I don't think they take it seriously and they see no behaviours at school.

They still haven't completed his pupil passport thing they're meant to be doing.

There are some wonderful Sencos around - hope yours is one of them.
