Eidsvold's gym saga update

Have not heard anything despite firing off an email on Tuesday after the incident. I was going to go this morning when dd1 would be in sn kindy and then it woul djsut be dd2 but I could not bring myself to do it. Did not feel comfortable doing it.

Anyway - have just realised that a lovely ex-student of mine ( from many years ago - now friend) works for the organisation that the gym is a part of and so I contacted her for the appropriate person to address my snail mail to.

She was stunned when I told her what had happened and has said she thinks they may have been discussing it yesterday. I told her I was upset that no one had called to see if I was okay or dd1 was okay. My friend was horrified to know that it had happened at all and has said she will also discuss it with her boss. She too agrees a fence is needed and if I am worried other mums must be too.

Hopefully something will happen or I will hear more. Will keep you up to date on my saga.

had a phone call after this letting me know they got the email and they are looking into the cost of putting up a fence - the other option ( made me a little annoyed) would be to cut the no of chidlren being cared for which would upset other parents - so okay for my child's safety not to be as big an issue as other upset parents - I said the fence sounds like the win win situation then doesn't it.

Unfortunately the big boss is away until Mondy but friend is going to talk with him anyway... so see what happens.

Not sure if this was a compliment or not but they did say they did not realise dd1 had down syndrome when she first started coming to the child care and the carer whilst having child care experience has not worked with children with sn. I figure for an hour all she has to do is keep dd1 contained and amused. I am never longer than an hour.

So still not sure how this will end - if no fence - just have to cut down to once a week on the weekend when dh can care for the girls and of a night when I find my energy again.....

Bit annoyed - it was poor gym guy who had been looking for dd1 on Tuesday not anyone in management who called me - perhaps he offered as I have had dealings with him - pleasant ones - he has always been very pleasant and helpful.

So more wait and see.

well at leasty they have acknowledged it

I take it they dont have specific no's they can/cant have then? like ofsted stipulates over here?

are you feeling less shaken now?

eidsvold · 07/09/2006 07:35

they try to conform to education queensland ( dept of ed) standards which is 7 - but that is not taking into account having one with sn which would lower the nos.

Less shaken more disappointed. Pleased they have acknowledged my email.

Just know with school holidays coming up soon ( spring break) two weeks where I thought I could get a couple of hours a week out at the gym to stop me from going nuts and dd1 as well - no playschemes here for her - too young. But no go I guess.

If their solution is to make it difficult or impossible for you to go during the daytime because you have a child with a disability then that's not acceptable and may be against rules/laws. What about disability discrimination etc? Grrr on your behalf.
