London feeding clinic?

Hello

Sorry - I posted this in chat and realise I'm better off posting it here.

Our 5 year old autistic son has suddenly developed food refusal behaviour and is currently only eating ice cream. A medical reason for refusal has been ruled out, and the problem arose following a brief, minor stomach ailment. I suspect there are oral hypersensitivity issues and anxiety around having solid food in his mouth and swallowing.

We would like to get input from experts who can advise re: nutrition and measures to help move him towards eating properly again. Can anyone recommend a private London feeding clinic (for speed)?

Many thanks.

Hi Yarnie, you must be very worried about your son. I hope someone comes along soon with some advice for you.

Has your some been refusing food for a long time?

My ds has gone through periods of eating very few foods. But he has never been as extreme as only ice cream (except when he had chicken pox)

I don't know of a private clinic, but my DS (5, ASD) is under the behavioural feeding clinic at St Thomas' as he has extreme sensory problems around certain types of foods. It might be worth asking your GP for a referral, though I know you want him seen quickly and you do have to wait several months for an initial appointment.

I know how worrying it is. My DS went 6 weeks without eating anything except breadsticks / oat bars a couple of years ago and I had to re- introduce other foods (puréed) very slowly, sometimes just one spoonful per meal and offer him big rewards for eating it.
