Soft collar school shirts

Hi, I was wondering if these exist, basically school shirts (not polos) with soft collars. Ds going into year 2, most children start wearing shirt and tie although not compulsory DS wants to too. However he claims the shirts I have bought hurt his neck and that is without doing top button. I have heard M & S do skin kind but was not sure if this was the same thing or just soft material, seams and no labels. Usually cutting out labels works so have not tried these shirts. Can anyone help. Thanks

I seem to remember that the Matalan ones go soft after a few washes, I have bought Dd3 some from different places and am planning to give them a few washes to see which ones she gets on best with.

They definitely soften with age and buying a size too big can help so the collar isnt tight. Dd3's new school are really anal about top buttons!!

I used to cut my top buttons off when I was at school so I couldnt be made to fasten them.

I am dreading the whole school shirt, tie and blazer thing with Dd3 Sad Hmm

Try pure cotton ones. I find ebay best place as hard to source eg we have got one from next, one Ralph Lauren Polo (!) and one Gap for a few £ each on ebay otherwise you'd have a big trek round trying to find which places are selling cotton shirts. There are specialist sellers online eg for eczema sufferers etc but much more expensive. Cotton ones are generally nicer anyway. My non asd DS moans that he stands out as his blue shirt is different to all the nasty nylon ones, but my DS with asd doesn't notice his are different. Could be an issue for other children though. If you check the item specifics of ebay listings often tell you what fabric and if 100% cotton.

Thanks Everyone. Will go on a mission to feel collars and see if there are any initially softer, which is a start. This year wore shirt and tie only on a Friday as definitely no PE that day so that he did not struggle with buttons, he had M & S with velcro for top button, but shirts far too wide (very Skinny) and Debanhams which fit well and collars not to stiff but still annoying to him. I just thought that there may of been a shirt made with less stiff collar. Will let you know if I find anything.

Collar extenders are also useful as it means they don't feel so choked, but are invisible under a school tie.

Just had a thought, how easy are the 100% cotton shirts to iron? I am completely useless at ironing, avoid it to be honest. I always manage to run the iron into the inside of my arms, or get all tied up trying to get creases correct. His school polo shirts need no ironing at all. Just wash and go. Anyway I presume the cotton ones cant just be hung up, but need proper iron. Cheers

Dh wears cotton shirts for work and I dont notice much difference in terms of ironing, they all have to be ironed but just a quick rub over. Again go for short sleeves then they are easier to iron and the cuffs dont get manky Grin
