Hi - my DS has some learning difficulties - mostly around language, and sensory processing. Can anyone recommend a good summer camp that would cater well for him? Feel free to let me know if I am posting in the wrong place - bit of a novice at this! Thanks

Does he have a diagnosis and, if so, what is it? You could look at Unity in Hendon which is run by the charity Norwood or YASS! In Barnet, NAS branches in Enfield, Barnet, haringey and Camden if appropriate. Hth

No diagnosis. But would find normal social situations and certain camp activities hard because of gross/fine motor/core weakness/sensory processing issues. So not sure if he would be accepted on any of those as he is not on the autistic spectrum...Anyone else have any other ideas/suggestions?

Somewhere like WAC in Camden? Although they have a waiting list but are very experienced with all levels of SNs and non SNs. Pirate castle in Camden? Ditto above. I would try to talk to Christine who runs Yass! In Barnet, it us for hf and she knows a lot about borderlines

Lindamood-Bell - in central London Do google. I've spoken with a number of parents who have used this and their children have overcome all hurdles. It's intense but lots of fun.

The price for an assessment is bearable (they have a discount until the 27th of this month) but the summer camp is worthy of a second mortgage. It's 4 hours a day with ten minute breaks. Lost of incentives, prizes etc. and the kids seem to absolutely love it. Ours loved the assessment so much, it was fun and not stressful at all.

Hope this helps.

HI
My daughter (16) did Lindamood Bell Last summer. They insisted they would improve her comprehension skills significantly and by the end of the summer would be a keen and happy reader. They were very persuasive! You can imagine it was not an easy decision as they recommended 120 hours at £100 per hour, but were so compelling about the extraordinary results they could achieve that we decided to invest. They tested her extensively at the beginning and said the would retest at the end and we would be able to see the clear results. Well to cut a long story short, my daughter diligently went every day in her summer holidays for four hours a day doing English drills and at the end of the programme she was retested and none of her scores improved at all. Not only this ,but Lindamood Bell failed to pick up the fact that my daughter had severe ADD (she was diagnosed with this the following year after one of her teachers at school suggested she got tested). Given LMB are meant to be specialists in this area, it was a shock that they failed to pick this up. I absolutely would not recommend them, The place was hugely chaotic and there can be no justification for such an expensive tuition scheme, preying on parents' fears and hopes. Frankly it seems like a scam.
