Conductive Education

My Son is thirteen months old and has a brain injury from having had meningitis at birth. He has West Syndrome Epilepsy and Global Development Delay. It has always been very 'lets wait and see' but I'm getting impatient and very worries now as he can't sit unaided, doesn't roll, won't use his right arm and although he can bare some weight in his legs he can't cruise. I have heard that Conductive Ed. could be helpful, does anyone have any experience of this? Is it ridiculously expensive and can we get any help with funding? What are your opinions on how effective? any thoughts appreciated. Oh and how do I find one if we decide to go ahead?
Are there any alternatives or therapies that you would recommend? Is he still too young for portage?
Thanks

I have no experience of conductive education but he's not to young for portage , sorry to hear you have had such a hard time

i agree, do not 'wait and see' - start the ball rolling.

He is not too young for portage. contact your child development team (if he is under them and request a referral), HV or you can self refer.

I have heard some very positive things about conductive education.

scope could be your first port of call for a list of any centres in your area. As with all these therapies, its a case of trying them and seeing what suits you and your little one your little one.

Our son went a CE centre in Scotland. He started at age 2 & went for a few years. We thought it was a great help at the time & we all learned so much from them! Our council funded our placements including accommodation.

Thanks for the responses. I have found a place online for C.E it is probably a good 45 minute drive away but it's free which I guess it's great unless it's a case of 'you get what you pay for'. I think I will give it a go. Will also see if I can get portage, sounds like a bit of a postcode lottery from what I've read! Thanks again.

Glad you have found a CE centre. Throwing myself into additional therapies has really helped me feel like I am making a difference for my little girl. It can be trial and error until you find what suits. Good Luck to you and your little one.
