Here are some suggested organisations that offer expert advice on special needs.

SLT recommendations but school say they won't implement.

Dd, age 7, diagnosis of ASD. I received her SLT assessment report yesterday and there are a number of "Direct Intervention" and "Recommended Strategies" for SLT on it. I called the school and spoke to the SENCO this morning to be told that dd is coping well and so they will not be implanting the strategies as there are children at the school in more need than dd, who they must prioritise. Can they do this?

Dd is managing well but there are clear issues that I think need addressing. I have only found out today that dd has an IEP and has done for a couple of terms. I have not seen this IEP and in fact was not aware of its existence. I asked should I apply for a statement to ensure SLT input and was told it wouldn't be worth it as she doesn't need one to one. It's true she doesn't but there ARE issues around her attention span and listening an understanding abilities.

In short I was entirely unsatisfied with the conversation and not sure where to go next. I already have another child with autism and negotiated his needs and statement etc but his behaviour was much more problematic than dd so he demanded attention and tbh everyone seemed A LOT more helpful with him Hmm.

Any thoughts please? Thanks Smile

I think you need to put it all in writing. send in the recommendations and details and ask how the school will be able to provide for her needs. Ask for a copy of her IEP, as a parent you should have been given this and ask for it to be updated to reflect these recommendations you have now received.

schools will always have someone who is seen as having a greater need but this is when you have to become a pushy mother to make sure YOUR child isn't pushed out.

having said all this I am not getting anywhere with support for my daughter so perhaps I am not the best to offer advice but I think you need it in writing as they are less likely to put in writing what they have told you on the phone.
