Can you have an iep and not be on school action ?

I have been told that DS will be given an iep plan to help him move to Year 2.

Is there a connection between school action plans and iep or not. Can you have an iep on its own ?

What zzzzz said.
The school are writing down the provision they are making, over and above that which they make for everyone else - ie, the action the school are taking....by defalt 'School Action'
That said, the term is going from September anyway, and, at the conference I attended on Friday, they were saying that people can start the new arrangements now - so it may just be the school has stopped using the terms 'SA' and 'SA+'.

So they can JUST have an iep on its own ?

AFAIK DS is not on either SA or SA+ (though I am unclear what these really cover/are)

Our Senco said DS is normal (of course, regardless of labels or help needed, he is still himself), needs no help in school and school can not help him/us get into school in the mornings.

We originally did a CAF form to ask for ASD outreach assessment which failed, as the school told me it would the week before the assessment. I also expected it to fail as he masks so well in the classroom.

School have sent Behavioural support information to me (as they don't need it, as DS behaves masks at school)

So I am guessing as the school are not dealing with anyone, DS will not be on SA or SA+ , just this iep.

I think your Ds is on SA if he has an IEP , I'm not sure though, this the way I understand it.
Just to let you know my Ds masks at school and school say he is fine, he now has a statement.
However, school would not take me seriously until I got Ds privately assessed by an ed pysch and then dx a few months later (privately), he has recently been assessed by nhs who agree with private dx.
Can you go to your GP/paed re: autism outreach

I don't think SA or SA+ are really anything for your to get your knickers in a twist over. They are just lists and as such can do nothing (ever heard of a list jumping out of filing cabinet and teaching children to read?)

Some schools think that the route to getting a statement is SA, then SA+ and then Statement but it isn't.

He has an IEP. What is detailed on there should be SMART and progress against targets measurable. The targets should be specifically to address his difficulties that are over and above difficulties a child would typically have at his age. Keep your focus here as this is the thing that has any power to make a difference.

I gave been told his teacher has already written his iep but I should have input.

I would like to address...

  1. Going to toilet on own and washing hands
  2. Social stories or similar to teach him to be better socially
  3. Get to know next year's teacher, classroom and next year's class timetable.

Are these kind of things iep worthy ?

1 and 2 are, certainly. 3 isn't really a target for him, but something the school should be looking at as part of the transition planning.

Thanks :)

I bet he is on SA. My DD had an IEP from nursery. No one told me it meant she was on SA. I discovered she was in it when u asked if she should be on it IYSWIM?

She is now in SA+ as she has ASD and severe speech delay. Currently aged 5 and about to enter YR 2.

Babieseverywhere · 19/06/2014 11:22

Apparently he is on Early Years Action plus.

So he must be having input from outside bodies? My DD went straight onto SA+ as she was under SALT and community paeds prior to starting school and that continued.

Awaiting appointments in NHS with a couple of people.
