Anyone else awaiting imminent SA result?

Having applied for SA back in February we are due to hear whether our son is to be Statemented or not this week- I'm feeling more nervous by the day.

After so much work putting together all the letters and reports over the last few months I'm trying to enjoy the last few days of everything being out of my hands (given potentially we will be back to fighting his corner when the decision comes through), but crossing my fingers tightly!

Anyone else in the same boat? At least there is no postman today to obsessively look out for...

I was in your shoes this time last year desperate to get the statement and the school of our choice named so I know how you're feeling. hugs!! In our case I got an email ping through on my phone while in Costa and I burst into tears (of relief) and everyone started staring at me!! GOOD LUCK!! X

Ineedmorepatience · 15/06/2014 09:25

I am waiting at the moment, we have just under 3 weeks left to wait for our decision.

Preparing all the paperwork and going to tribunal was tough but this waiting is awful. Everything is in the hands of a bunch of people who have mostly never met my child Confused Sad

mamaabc · 15/06/2014 09:28

Yep. Waiting to hear this week.

been here before with other child.

know how shockingly bad the 1st proposed statement was and what a fight is was to get it turned into a useful statement.

don't know many people in real life with kids who have statements - but all i do know - ALL of them the 1st proposed statement was rubbish and had to fight / tribunal to get a specified and quantified statement.

from reading mumsnet for years i see this as a general trend, but can i ask, are there many people out there on receiving their child's first proposed statement who actually got one that was 90% ok (maybe a couple of minor tweaks needed) or is everyone having to fight to get what they need?

bjkmummy · 15/06/2014 10:20

when I got my both my boys first proposed statements I accepted them both as I knew no different. looking back they were both rubbish and explains why I would end up in battles further down the line. one sons statement is now watertight after going through the tribunal process. now going through statementing with child number 3 - lovely meeting with the EP tomorrow to look forward to..........

PassTheProsecco · 15/06/2014 10:25

Thank you BigBird!

Very best of luck Ineedmorepatience and mammaabc, fingers crossed for you too!

Hope the EP meeting goes well for you tomorrow bjkmummy.

Hopefully we will all get there in the end!!! Keep hearing Dory in my head... 'Just keep swimming, just keep swimming...'

Good luck girls. I am appealing my nil right now so I pray none of you end up where I am. Still if you do it's just more same old, same old. Appealing becomes part of normal life after a while

PassTheProsecco · 15/06/2014 16:11

Sorry to hear that 2boysnamedR. Feels never ending sometimes doesn't it, will certainly be joining you in the appeal corner if we do get a nil.

Good luck for this week.

I have just received the proposed and it is beyond rubbish - they have not even tried.

LAs do seem to be issuing terrible proposed statements that they must know are terrible. My LA have 'solved' the problem of having to put SALT and OT in part 3 by not requesting information on current patients and leaving existing provision out of the statement all together. The total number of hours support is actually much less than he had before the statement. The reports are half-decent and so part 2 is not too bad but part 3 appears to be for a different child, needing no support, so the specific OT devised and monitored provision is replaced by 'opportunities to develop his gross and find motor skills to an increased level of fluency'. Er, what does that look like, who does it and for how long and how often and how is progress to be measured?

PassTheProsecco · 16/06/2014 17:56

Sorry to hear that KeepOnKeepingOn1, you must be feeling utterly fed up.

I must admit I am not sure I'll know a good statement from a bad one (if we are lucky enough to get one). Might be tempting fate asking this question but can anyone recommend any good sources of online info when it comes to reviewing proposed statements?

OP posts:
mamaabc · 16/06/2014 18:07

Ipsea and sossen both have loads of good info. Well worth looking up online.

everything needs to be specified and quantified. No "access to... "

you will know a bad statement. If you read through part 2 and 3 and it could have been written for anyone.

it should read as my child's specific needs and how to solve them. Not we have this vague provision that may be helpful to any number of children with any number of needs.

2boysnamedR · 16/06/2014 20:57

Keeponkeepingon - it's like a never ending series of fighting isn't it? What a waste of time and money!

Ineedmorepatience · 16/06/2014 21:14

I am expecting a NIL at best. After our win at tribunal I still dont think the LA will rush to issue a statement, rubbish or not.

I am expecting to be back at tribunal.

To be honest I am completely ground down now. I will continue to fight though because I really dont think any massive mainstream secondary is going to be able to meet Dd3's needs without a statement.

Good luck everyone.

Skylar123 · 16/06/2014 21:56

Good luck everyone. We received Ds's proposed statment last week. Making amendments and sending it back pronto!

2boysnamedR · 16/06/2014 23:05

Don't give up until your at the end of the sausage machine! You give up when you lose a tribunal - ( for the time being at least). If I loose on the nil I stop then and try again if needs be in a year or so. Until then I would even fight on to contend a rubbish statement. Believe me I'm so over this now but I have to see it through. It's taken to much of my life to roll over now.

Almost there! Hang on in

PassTheProsecco · 17/06/2014 15:50

Well done Skylar!

Still waiting here...

We were told that the LEA was going to issue a statement for DS1 last week. Am waiting for the first draft with mixed feelings.

So many hurdles to overcome...

PassTheProsecco · 18/06/2014 13:12

Apparently our proposed statement has gone out in the post today!

OP posts:
KOKOagainandagain · 18/06/2014 13:49

My LA post second class on a Wednesday hoping it won't arrive until Saturday morning when the offices are closed so that there is a forced cooling off period for parents to recover from the shock of how bad it is Hmm

But at least it's not a NIL (one hurdle cleared) so Smile

ToffeeWhirl · 18/06/2014 20:17

I've been warned about that trick, Keep.

PassTheProsecco · 18/06/2014 20:21

First class post apparently KeepOnKeepingOn1 so hopefully it will be here tomorrow with any luck. Preparing myself for the worst content wise but fingers crossed for something vaguely appropriate and tweakable!

OP posts:
fightingagain · 18/06/2014 20:21

I requested almost 40 changes to our proposed sm and they were agreed without us having to go to tribunal. I realise that this isn't the norm though.

PassTheProsecco · 22/06/2014 21:28

No statement in the post on Thursday, or Friday. Chased it up on Friday and they said it had been posted on Wednesday. Didn't arrive yesterday either so planned a trip to the LA tomorrow to pick up a copy in person!

Low and behold a neighbour chucked a load of mis-posted letters through the door this evening, including the statement.

Ripped it straight open and skimmed through to the bit I really cared about and YES, they have decreed that DS must have 32.5 hours 1:1.

The rest looks good too but going to just enjoy the sheer relief this evening and then look at it properly in the morning.

Hasn't sunk in yet,

Best of luck to all those still waiting and/or fighting xxx

2boysnamedR · 23/06/2014 06:31

Well done, glad that's one less thing to fight for

sammythemummy · 25/06/2014 10:40

I sent off the proposed statement with all the amendemnts last week. The initial statement was so vague that it was beyond a joke, the LA lady tried to use "we want statements to be flexible as children's needs change" rubbish on me :)

How long do they take to reply back to changes?

Ineedmorepatience · 25/06/2014 13:01

pass That is great news about the hours. Hope the rest of the statement was ok too.

sammy hope your LA realise that you are not stupid fairly quickly Hmm

My 10 weeks is up next week, does that mean they have to tell me whether they are going to issue a statement or do they have a further 2 weeks to decide??

We are getting closer and closer to the end of term Sad
