Should Speech and Language always go in part 3 of a statement?

Thats it really, I know a few people including myself who are awaiting statements.

I have seen a friends child's draft today and the SAL is in part 6, the LO is non verbal!

If Dd3 gets a statement I want her SAL to go in part 3 as her needs are definitely educational.

Thanks in advance Smile

if the childs slt needs are educational (which they almost always are!) they should be in part 2 with the slt provision in part 3.
In the case of a non verbal child I would think slt should be in parts 2 and 3 definitely.

tbh it doesnt really matter if they name it in part 5 and 6 aswel, as long as it is 100% specified and quantified in parts 2 and 3!

Thankyou, I will speak to my friend and make sure she gets it changed.

If they write Dd3 a statement I dread to think what it will have in it.

It also needs to be in Part 2 as well as 3.

She needs to quote the Lancashire judgment/agreement at the LEA if they argue about it.

Talking to IPSEA is also a good idea www.ipsea.org.uk

Yes - it's not legally binding if it isn't in parts 2 & 3.

Please can you clarify what you mean by in both part 2 and 3? Should part 2 explain that there is a speech problem and then part 3 explain what SALT is required to correct it or do you mean that both parts should explain the help required? I thought we were safe with just the support itemized in part 3. Many thanks.

the educational need for SLT should be specified within part 2, eg - dc has phonological disorder that prevents him from blending sounds and this impacts upon his reading.
part 3 should specify the educational provision needed to meet the needs specified in part 2, eg - dc must have an hour of direct 1:1 slt a week with a fully qualified slt with x amount of years experience.
