We have just had the fantastic news that DS (4) has been given one of the county's places at a special resource base for speech and language issues. So he will start reception with a class of 10 in a nearby primary, a teacher and TA used to supporting communication issues and a salt in two days a week.
He will do four days a week there and one at his 'home' infant school where his place is held for up to four terms til he returns full time to mainstream.
I am utterly relieved, delighted and tearful that my gorgeous cuddly little just 4 year old will start his full time education somewhere where staff can help him. His lovely nursery and attached infants are great but he was going to be in a class of 30 with staff who emphasise that they can't help speech disorder, they are not linguists or salt.
There was no real plan b that I could get from school or nhs apart from more one hour salt a week which we have done for a year with no real change.
On Thursday night he went off alone for a while then found my mum and said 'you don't understand my words' very sadly.
He has so much to say and I just wanted to celebrate with you all as I've posted here before about him. I'm so scared he will withdraw and be anxious without this help, he is so frustrated by the gap in what he says and what we understand.
Oh no, tearing up again about it. Thank you for all the advice about it.
