Just wanted to know has anyone used the above or could recommend where we could purchase a harness with long reins. Today we were in a very busy park any my son was playing in splash pads only wearing his nappy as it was v hot. He is non -verbal with really no understanding of any language. He was having so much fun but myself and my husband never took our eyes off him for a second. I went to get a towel and someone walked in front of my husband's his view and in that short time he was gone! Panic set in as you can imagine and thankfully he was located by a park attendant about 100 metres away running, laughing and stimming. He had no idea he was lost nor would he be able answer any questions. He won't keep anything round his neck and would eat anything round his wrist so looking at other options. I feel I'm not going to be able to take him out on my own during the summer. He's four and I can't see him improving much in the foreseeable future. We have a McLaren Major for him but can't keep him strapped in all of the time. I just feel sick about what could've happened. My husband has said most parents will lose a child at some point but the difference is most children would be able to ask for help.

We use a backpack with a wrist strap sometimes for DD..just has a strap on back with then goes round our wrist.

But otherwise, sadly, one of us just does have to watch or hold onto her at all times. And she is 7

sorry I can't offer any advice RE the harness but just want you to know that you are not alone. This happened to us when dd was 3. I took my eye off of her for a second in a shop and she was gone. she left the shop and the shopping mall and was skipping to the park when a lovely lady found her and phoned the police. I was hysterically trying to find dd in the shop not knowing that she had left Sad
like your ds, dd had no idea that she was lost or that she shouldn't wander off. she was also mostly non verbal.
dd was missing for 20 mins before we knew that she had been found. I still shudder when I think back to what happened.

Oh gosh that sounds awful! I'm sure you won't forget that day ever!! We do have a backpack but just thinking a harness with a long rein might give him a little more freedom. Today was super super busy and I'm thinking we'll def avoid very busy places if possible from now on!

it was awful Sad
dd is 8 now and she still wanders off and is very impulsive. I dont let her out of my sight now.

We used an alarm strapped to DD1's laces (went off if she went further than 20m from the locator), a wrist strap or a crelling harness at that age.

Lougle that sounds good. Can you remember name of it or where it was purchased. Thank you.

That was the one we used.

Thank you. Will definitely be investing in one of these.

I use engraved tags (like pet tags but a little bigger) on clips, which he has clipped onto his clothes in prominent places: they say I am [the Dude], I am autistic and cannot speak" and then have our phone numbers. I have had a few scares but have not lost him yet. The Mummy I'm here looks like a good idea, am thinking about getting one, thanks for drawing my attention to it.

Thank you for that suggestion as well I think I could clip it to the back of him where he wouldn't pull it off !!

I bought the Mommy I'm Here and used it at the zoo today: it was OK but does have an annoyingly short range before it starts beeping: just 25 feet so if he even walks a tiny distance away it keeps beeping all the time. I think I might try asking DH if he can disable to speaker on the parent part of it so it just works as a locator if DS wanders off....
