ABA Full Time or Part Time in School?

Hi,

I'm in the middle of amending my dd's proposed statement. The Aba consultant said that there is no point in asking for a part school part home ABA programme as my dd will not get because she's more than capable to be in school full time so they won't grant me that.

Is that the case?

I think the law says education within a school unless it's considered all or part of the education need to take place otherwise than in a school. Might want to look at Brent case ( google David Wolfe SEN guide).
DS has 35 hours ABA and about 17 hours are in school (he attends 7 half days, was 3, then 5, then 6). Not sure if you are asking for more than school week or not. Would depend whether your child needed 1:1 distraction free work time, whether school can provide quiet area for that etc school is noisy challenging environment for DS and he finds 1:1 sessions much easier (and makes more progress). Personally I always think you should ask for what you want and see what happens.

I agree with Agnes' advice "Personally I always think you should ask for what you want and see what happens."

We asked for part-home/part-school and didn't get it. But atleast we asked and the HT knows why we think part-home will work. For now our child(nursery) goes 15 hrs to nursery (funded by school) and does 12 hrs at home(we fund). Come sept, we will request the HT to do a gradual full time placement and see how they feel during review

Hi everyone, thank you for your input.

TBH she enjoys nursery and her behaviour is much better now that the shadow is there. She doesn't have any sensory issues and the nursery are keen to increase her to full hours ( which I'm not agreeing to)

She currently only gets 12-15 hours of aba.

I think I'm just apprehensive at the thought if her being in school for such long hours, but aside from that I do think she's capable of attending ( provided the shadow is there) full time.

I'm not going to ask as I don't want to rock the boat too much at this point.

What is the likelihood of them taking me to tribunal?

Or is that a rhetorical question? Grin
