I must admit I have had an easy holiday but I am not looking forward to dd going back on tuesday. she is excited as she is going into secondry. But I like the holidays when I feel in charge. when she is at school I feel like "they" take over.

I'm dreading it actually, its his last year at this school,he's used to the routines and everyone and everyone accepts his differences.I don't know how he will cope in a bigger school.

xxx
tbh i am looking forward to the peace and quiet
have no complaints regarding ds2 school

MrsFio · 01/09/2006 07:42

me and my friend often talk about this 2 shoes. We both agreed that you feel some degree of detachment. I dont know whether your dd goes into school on transport but dd gets picked up at about 8am and doesnt get back until 4pm and the only contact I have most days is through her home/school book which sometimes never gets wrote in!!! I think geographically because the school is further away I worry more.

With dd I sometimes still feel like she is my baby and it can be quite heart wrenching to let her go sometimes, even though the holidays can sometimes feel quite tough iykwim

2 shoes my dd will start secondary next year and I am worrying already so you have my sympathy. I feel very unsure about sn help in secondary school - hoping it will become clearer as this year passes. Its good she is excited to go!

mrs2shoes · 01/09/2006 14:14

shouldn't be too bad as same school just different department but i am still so wound up that her classroom will be in primary

fattiemumma · 01/09/2006 14:17

I am dreading it.

Ds is in mainstream and is going into year 1 so it will be a much more structured day.

he rarely managed to stay for the full day (after coming home for lunch) when he was in reception.
I have really enjoyed not have to panic every time the phone rings that its the school calling me to collect him.

new room, new teachers, different classmates (3 recpetion classes and only 2 yr1 classes os they are all mixed up) and a whole heap of anxiety...great!

every year I seem to be told that dd will REALLY struggle next year...mine went back this week (as we are in usa) so far so good

Tiggiwinkle · 01/09/2006 18:11

We are in exactly the same position Dinosaur-DS is 7 and has AS. He is already very anxious about the return-next Tuesday is first day back for us. My one consolation is that he will have a lovely teacher-I know her well as she taught two of my older DSs.

Pinkchampagne · 01/09/2006 22:50

I am worried about my DS going into year 2, as I know a lot will be expected of him.
He hasn't been diagnosed with anything yet, but ticks all the boxes for dyspraxia & it is very hard to get him motivated. He also has big problems with organisation & I know that in year 2 they are expected to be fairly independant.

sphil · 02/09/2006 08:11

I'm dreading it in some ways and looking forward to it in others. DS1(dyspraxic traits)is going into Yr 1 and I worry about how he'll cope. Having said that he's come on in leaps and bounds over the holidays - now much better at dressing/undressing, disordered speech has almost disappeared and he's had some great 1:1 play dates. Has the same very understanding teacher this year too. BUT class size is increasing from 12 to 21 (still small I know)and they've moved a whole bunch of difficult kids in (the teacher is fab with disruptive children).
We'll see...

DS2 is starting at the m/s nursery attached to the school for 2 pms a week, in addition to the two mornings he already does at the Montessori. Is getting 1:1 at both but I worry that it'll be too much for him.

The lure of 10 hours a week free time is going some way to cheering me up though ....

Isn't this end of hols dread a familiar feeling to everyone though? I certainly remember it - but it's worse when your children are more vulnerable.

coppertop · 03/09/2006 13:39

Ds1 will be moving up into Yr2 so I'm worrying about how he will cope with the change. He's already told me that he is feeling scared and even though he enjoys school he has asked if he can stay at home instead. I haven't even seen his new teacher yet but his Yr1 teacher has told us that she is very good.

Ds2 can't wait to get back to pre-school. The children he liked most last year were apparently the oldest children and so will be starting Reception next week. I'm not sure whether ds2 will hate the change or enjoy being one of the oldest himself.

I must admit though that I can't wait to be able to leave the house again. Maybe I'll also be able to make it from one end of the room to the other without tripping over Daleks, Cybermen, Power Rangers swords and figures, or guns.

jenk1 · 03/09/2006 13:47

Absolutely dreading it, so is DS

I actually dont know whats going to happen re his schooling as LEA are saying stick him back in straightaway (which we have refused to do) and our psych is saying no way does he go back in until they have set up some support which the LEA are refusing so think he will continue having the home tutor for the future.

We have an appointment with an ASD school on the 14th of Sep which is about 20mins away from here, have been told we will have a fight on our hands to get him in there but thats ok, im used to fighting the LEA

CT - am with you on looking forward to a clear floor! Are yours into Bionicles yet? If not, don't encourage it - loads of teeny tiny pieces which all look the same but absolutely must be put back on the correct figure. And they all have names like Thak,Thok and Thuk which doesn't make it easier ("NO, Mummy, that's Thuk's plasma shooter not Thok's....)

Jenk - the very best of luck! Hope your DS gets the education he deserves this year.

coppertop · 04/09/2006 12:58

We've escaped the dreaded Bionicles so far (touchwood!). Th e latest love is Transformers - the robots so bl**dy well disguised that you don't know they're there till you stand on them. I had a sneaky go at transforming one and had to confess to an unimpressed ds1 when it snapped.

sphil · 07/09/2006 21:16

DS1 calls them 'Barnacles'
