dd just been diagnosed hf asd, and a friend of mine said about how we can get a special pass at legoland????? I looked on their site and it was pretty vague. Can anyone tell me what the actual setup is? what proof would I need to take?

Dd would LOVE to go, but we've always shied away from it for obvious reasons!!!

You get a letter from your GP or Paed stating why your DS needs the pass (anxiety/no concept of queueing) and you take it to the designated area, usually customer services, when you get there.

I'm unsure of Legoland, but we have certainly used the facility at Alton towers.

We have used this scheme a lot. I take along dd1's Statement as proof of disability - never had a problem with this. Queue at customer services by the turnstiles, and they will sort it out. When we last went (2 years ago as have had baby/toddler) dd1 got a red hand stamp, and the rest of us got a black one. We were entitled to use the disabled entrance/exit for entry to the rides, which cut down the queue times enormously.

I think there have been a few changes since we last went, so worth checkin it out. The criteria for exit pass qualification has changed - the main issue is that now customers need to 'have difficulty understanding the concept of queuing' rather than eg difficulty walking/physical disability.

Legoland is the best scheme ever!
We went last year and are going again this year. You just have to taken a letter stating the diagnosis of ASD (not DLA forms they dont accept them) and you get an 'Exit pass'. This allows DC and up to 3 more people to que jump on up to 10 rides per day using exit or disables entrance.
Alton Towers also do this but you can que jump unlimited amount of times but just have to wait a set time between que jumping on the main rides such as smiler, nemesis etc but other rides you can get straight on.

I have a copy of the 2 1/2 page letter from psychiatrist to GP, eventually saying that dd's behaviour "would support a diagnosis of ASD."

Is that the official diagnosis letter?

can I get DLA?

That diagnosis letter should be ok.
You can apply for DLA if DC requires more help and supervision in her daily living tasks than her peers.
Check out this guide www.cerebra.org.uk/English/getinformation/guides%20for%20parents/Documents/dla-guide-web.pdf

Not everybody who has a diagnosis will qualify for DLA and equally there are some children who get DLA before a diagnosis. Its based on need.

We went to Legoland on Wednesday and used a copy of the diagnosis letter from CAMHS, I highlighted the relevant bit and laminated it for days out Smile

We each got an ink stamp on our hand [which wasnt checked once] and we got a paper slip with 10 tear off tickets around the edge. Each time we used an exit the staff tore a ticket off.

It is a good system. The only ride it is complicated on is the Driving School, you have to enter through the Q-Bot entrance not the exit as the child has to watch a saftey video. This isnt explained anywhere but the staff were helpful.

Hope you have a good day, remember your swimming kit if you want to go in the Duplo water play, it was brilliant Smile

Yes you can apply for DLA, go on the CEREBRA website and download a guide for filling in the form.

Good luck Smile

ineed have they warmed the water up in the duplo bit? Last year we went in august and the water was freezing, it wasn't heated at all. Poor DS was shivering even with a wetsuit on!

Ineedmorepatience · 25/05/2014 10:56

No the water was freezing Dd3 doesnt care though Grin

Ds's teacher wrote a letter on school letterheaded paper to explain that he had difficulty in queues etc and they accepted that when we went. It is a special school though, not sure if that made a difference.

CaisleanDraiochta · 27/05/2014 23:13

Yep you can get a pass to use on 10 rides to skip the queues and also get to use the exit gate on the hill train as many times as you want as its not included in the 10 ride thing. On our last trip I also found out you can get 1 free entrance ticket for an adult carer too which also helps.
