Hypermobility and tiredness

Ds is 17. Among his other diagnoses he is hypermobile. This was identified by OT he doesn't have a medical diagnosis. He is not severely affected it mainly influences his writing and things like doing up buttons. He used always to get transport to school but since starting 6th form has been going on the bus with about 3/4 mile walk to the bus stop. He is complaining a lot about being exhausted by this even when he should have got used to the extra exercise. I am wondering whether this could be due to the hypermobility or is it due to his other difficulties or merely teenage laziness.
Any thoughts or experience welcome.

If he's not used to doing that walk, then it could still be the walk that's tiring him, but, to be honest, even on a bad day I can walk twice that distance without a break.

I think you need to see your GP to rule out any immediately obvious physical reasons for the tiredness (anaemia, thyroid inactivity) and ask for a rheumatology & physio referral to have the severity of the hypermobility checked out and get some pointers for strengthening exercises. It might be something as simple as his shoes are crap.

When YOU are feeling better, of course. It can wait a week or so.

Thanks. He's still in hospital in London at the moment so I'll wait until he gets home. I'm just trying to get things figured out while I don't have to deal with his needs on a daily basis.

Hypermobility can definitely cause excessive tiredness even from 'normal' activity: The muscles have to work much harder than in a 'normal' person just to hold the joints together. Agree that physio/strengthening exercises would help and a shoe assessment. If the HMS is causing pain this also causes fatigue.
