Do you have good days when your child is still quirky and has meltdowns but overall behaves well ?

I have no idea if my DS needs or would ever get a label. But the last six weeks of behaviour have been terrible and so hard to deal with.

Suddenly with the sunny weather, we have had two real good school runs and a happy child leaving school. :)

Of course I am super happy about it but wondering if I am crazy to be waiting and pushing for further assessments (which I am doing), based on this current behaviour.

Very confusing, does this mean his quirks are just behavioural ?

If you had asked me Monday I would have said 100% need a label give me one now and today I would say no need for a label for my quirky NT child.

What you are experiencing may show how incredibly effective and fast the 'right' intervention can be. The fact that I used a TRS at home and especially the fact that it worked, strengthened my case with school, LA, comm paed, SALT, OT etc.

What is TRS ?

Sorry Blush Token Reward System ie roughly what you have been doing with the minecraft reward for 'good' going to school is essentially TRS-lite (or what your DH thinks is bribery).

Babieseverywhere · 16/05/2014 13:43

Ahh, yep, bribery is indeed working :)

I had phases when ds was 5 or 6 when I would think this is mad there is really no asd here. Tbh they are further and further apart now he is 7. He has had a good couple of days too. My theory on it is that in the summer he gets much more exercise, so his movement seeking sensory needs are fulfilled.

I will just have to see how things go. Hoping for good school runs this week in the run up to the holidays.

I just keep going backward amd forward, does he need support ?

I guess I am worrying that we'll hit another bad patch like the last couple of months on school mornings.

You might do babies, but you are getting more and more adept at supporting him with it, it, and every time a bad patch comes you will get more skilled. There are big ups and downs ime. Keep documenting it all and keep posting here for support.

Thank you, this board is so supportive. I don't think I would of coped with everything so well without posters listening :)

DS was so upset tonight, he thought they had broken up for school already but they haven't yet, three more school days to go. Poor baby, gave him a cuddle and promised only three days to go to the holidays.

In order to avoid this kind of misunderstanding in the future I have bought a jewellery wall organiser on eBay and plan to make it into a weekly visual timetable, to make it clear which days are school days. As it stands we only have a homemade morning routine one atm.
