I got a letter from SALT this morning discharging DS2 (currently undergoing SA) because he is still age appropriate on repetition of a test (Renfrew) done in 2011 and has the same level of accuracy in pronunciation in a structured setting that was noted in writing several years ago.

After getting through the usual fob off I asked about the complaints procedure and was put through to the senior salt. After explaining the situation to her DS2 was immediately 'readmitted' and more suitable assessment will take place.

Inbetween times I'm on the phone to mum's social worker or psych nurse where they live in the same kafkaesque world where only they know the rules of the game and part of the rules include lying or giving partial and misleading info to the other side - ie me and my brother - that is designed to prevent us acting in her best interests.

I have now fully entered the Twilight Zone. Confused

Thanks Smile

I think I have evolved into an adrenaline fuelled robo-goose Grin

I can't believe that I am doing SA and NHS continuing care - both of which are likely to end up in first tier tribunal - at the same time Confused

Thank god I have the stress of completing my PhD thesis waiting in the wings to offset the adrenaline crash. Downside is that I might pop!

(it's not the gory version, though I can see how that might be appropriate here)

I'm sure the PhD is simple, in comparison. That will be dealing in facts.

bochead · 16/05/2014 00:20

You got my sympathy - year before last sorting out adult social care for sibling + the usual crap for DS - was the stuff nightmares are made of. At times I felt like I was living on the set of some surreal Euro Art House film. It ran my immune system into the ground, so do take care of yourself please.

MeirEyaNewAlibi · 18/05/2014 00:13

Ah, that's truly sht

Back in the day, this sort of story used to be half-true, or half-exaggeration. Now it's usually all true, and only-the-half-of-it

MeirEyaNewAlibi · 18/05/2014 00:15

Is there any way you could recycle the submissions as the PhD? Hmm Seems a shame to waste them....

Trouble is, it'll be post-doc standard and no supervisor would have a clue how to assess it Grin

KOKOagainandagain · 18/05/2014 08:33

The research is done for the phd - I just can't write up what I have but I'd built in extra time to deal with crises when arranging the submission date with the grad school.

It is the similarities between my mum and my DC and the NHS and LA that are surreal. If you bracket the hallucinations and delusional thinking the behaviour that results from 'impaired' executive functioning, memory problems, sensory hypersensitivity etc are spookily similar. My mum has fiddle toys, the SW is having to explain (to staff on the dementia ward ffs) that mum is not being 'naughty'. In the last week she has developed challenging behaviour and screams, shouts and slaps and is a 'computer-chucker'. Otoh she is super compliant with me and even told me that she loves me for the first time ever.

The NHS are pretending that continuing healthcare does not exist and say that mum can't go home (assumed alone). They want to declare her as lacking mental capacity so that they can over-ride her and make a 'best-interests decision using multi-disciplinary team. The family are consulted once a decision is made. I am trying to block this by her making a welfare LPA before declared incapable.

I am really fucking up DS's SA. Confused I had to ask the LA for an extension for parent and pupil views and have no choice but to take DS2 out of school next week as mum lives 250 miles away and I have no suitable child care here. Last week I got home 5 minutes before DS1's taxi from OOC Indi ss arrived (5 minutes 15 seconds before a monologue about all that had been wrong that week). Confused

Moan over - thanks for readingSmile

Yes. Real life doesn't 'let you off' just because you have a child with a disability,

My LA insisted that Ds' failure it make any progress was because of stress at home due to my DF's terminal illness. In truth, my DF's terminal illness may have never become so if I hadn't spent months ignoring him in favour of LA hoop-jumping for Ds.

Those who whinge about parents of children with SEN explaining how hard things are because they themselves are having life difficulties just 'don't get' that children with SEN are 'on top' of that, not instead of.

KOKOagainandagain · 18/05/2014 10:01

Oh, and I also failed to challenge a jaw-droppingly inaccurate report from the Essex ASD specialist teacher that has been used to justify the school dropping 95% of the intervention agreed in January. What a surprise - after 3 years of stagnation and failed interventions he is now making fantastic progress and needs less, not more, intervention.

Still, it would have made no difference to what they do now. I just have to make sure it get it in writing, albeit delayed, for the paper-trail and eventual audience.
