My MIL gets the Mail on Sunday and in YOU magazine there was a good article on a woman who had a baby with DS. Postive article, though not as good as TC/Aloha's in Eve (), I still have it if anyone wants me to send them a copy, not sure if you can get links from the MOS magazines online...?

Busy at work today grrrrrrrrrrr so may not respond today to any messages but the mag will not be carted off for recycling till next week.

there was another good article in the mail on friday. It was about that lady who had that little boy, Parys in the child of our time programme. Some sculptor has done a sculpture of her when she was pregnant that is going on display in London. Apparently it has caused a bit of a rucus because she is disabled, but boy is she a feisty woman. A very good role model for people however abled

I read that You article too (at my Mum and Dad's, I feel obliged to add ) Not a patch on aloha's but a good positive story nontheless. Have to admit though my first thought was "oooh, you're copying! Aloha and TC did theirs first!"

I was going to ask about the You magazine article actually - was going to post link but couldn't find it online. Throughout the article they referred to Down Syndrome. I've always said Down's Syndrome - can you use both terms? It wasn't a typo, it was all the way through.

Fio, isn't the sculpture going on a plinth in Trafalgar Square? Bl**dy fantastic! Alison Lapper is inspirational, she leaves me open mouthed in admiration.

yes I think it is. Sorry my last message was vague I have the crappest memory ever, but the woman is greatSmile

dont know about the Down syndrome/Downs syndrome thing sorry!

tamum · 23/03/2004 13:25

Pretty sure it's a UK/US thing- people here almost always say Down's, but it seems to be called Down syndrome in the US and most other places. They've probably been looking at US websites!

Janh · 23/03/2004 14:01

Talking of US websites - have a look at this one - the photo on the left changes every few seconds (you have to wait for the page to finish loading before it starts) and there are some glorious ones in there! There's a b&w one of a black mother and daughter laughing and it's just like looking at TC and Lottie.

TC (if you're here!) do you know yet if GMTV will be Wed or Thurs?

aloha · 23/03/2004 14:05

I saw that feature and thought it was wonderful. The women is a journalist I think and from NZ - the feature had a credit in the fold saying it was orignally published elsewhere and I think it was in an Aus or NZ newspaper. You magazine will have bought it from them. To be fair to YOU it isn't the first positive feature it has done about a family with a child with Down's. The editor is actually a very nice woman with a daughter of her own.

Ta tamum Just like to know these things.

eidsvold · 23/03/2004 19:16

i know it is Down's syndrome in Aus... if that is any help - same as the UK. Although i guess technically it would be Down's syndrome having been named for John Langdon Down.... so it would be 'his' syndrome - sorry the English teacher in me sad I know....

What a pain - I missed it - we were out and about and by the time we got back from London the local shop had sold out of them.

eidsvold · 23/03/2004 19:18

sorry by saying it was 'his' syndrome - that meant it would be Down's syndrome... I know -s tating the bleeding obvious - but my brain seems to have departed from my head of late
