Support for ds at school day out

Hi, my ds was at an event with school today and he was allocated an adult helper. I don't know if she was a parent helper or a teaching assistant. I was watching the event and she was beside him at all times helping him.

My issue with this is that the school did not tell me. They have always said everything is fine with ds at school and not given me any indication he needs this level of support.

I am pleased they are being so supportive to ds but also really annoyed they did not tell me. It makes me worry what else he is getting support with at school and they are not telling me.

He does not have a statement because we are in Scotland.

What do you think? Do I have a reason to be annoyed with school or should I just be pleased they are giving him support?

it might have been a case of them giving them a little extra support because its an event and not part of normal school routine.

its good that they have helped him but i think if you are concerned you should speak to them and ask them how he is doing and exactly what help he is being given.

thank you, it has made me concerned so I will speak to them. I was not expecting him to have support so it felt really strange watching him with a women I don't know.

its not nice when you don't know what's happening with your own child. schools seem to have problems remembering to communicate with parents they are a law unto themselves!

yes, communication to parents is not the schools strong point. I do trust the school but I really would like to know what support Ds is getting. thanks for your replies.
