SA decision timescale

Had letter today to say that all the SA reports are in and we will be informed of the decision in six weeks time.

Does it always take at least 6 weeks or does it just depend on when the panel meets to make the decision?

By law they they must complete the statutory assessment process within 16 weeks of the date of the original request for assessment, or within 10 weeks of the date when they informed you they would be proceeding to assessment. If they decide to issue a statement, they must produce a draft within 2 weeks after informing you of the decision.

I'm on my phone so can't post link but there are sites that calculate the sen timeline for you - you just enter the initial date. Smile

It almost always takes 6 weeks. So often, that if it's less, they must just sit on the decision till the clock goes bong.

But their start date is wrong. The clock starts ticking when you request SA, not when all the reports are back. Your LA is taking you for a dodo. Has the clock gone bong already?

Hmmmm, the date they have given as when they will 'aim to' get the decision made is 18 weeks from the original request and 12 weeks from confirmation that they are going to assess. We did have a significant change in diagnosis towards the end of the report submission period, perhaps that has delayed it?

Trying it on A simple mistake, easily made.

Just politely email saying you've noticed a typing error and the date on the letter is wrong, can they correct it as per sencop.

Ps Cornwall's little addition on top left of 'invalid referral- return to school' is bogus. Rest of chart taken from sen cop itself
