So which kind of SEN parent are you? A Settler, Prospector or Pioneer?

Thanks to Ugger for pointing this out!

And how much was this firm exactly paid for producing this lot of badly advised drivel?.

IPSEA commented below that news article pointing out that reducing the number of statements was illegal. Another commenter said it was interesting timing given a consultation running on closing a special school.

Obstacles · 02/05/2014 07:24

Meant to say reducing statements for financial reasons is illegal.

I think DS is a victim of the desire to slash the numbers of statemented children tbh.

A pioneer is a desperate soul (I should know!)

Where are the references to evidence based practice in this consultant report. I'm so fed up with whole lives being wrecked on the basis of "opinion". What annoys me most of all is that some of the things that would really make a difference are cost saving, or even neutral.

Less money on spurious consultants and more on direct face to face work of the moondog school of thought and there would be vastly improved outcomes for kids and budget reductions!

what I find interesting is that this has popped up at the same time as the letter from government to parents stating that fears about using the new plans to reduce provision are untrue!

sorry cant do the linky thingy

"....I know that some parents remain concerned about the changes and are nervous about the speed of change. I want to reassure you. This is not about cutting services....."

Well to be fair to Wirral, they haven't said that this is their plan.

Instead they have managed to waste public money commissioning a report that tells them the blimmin obvious i.e. the less children who have statements, the less they'll have to spend on statement provision.

If they were any good as a council, they'd be refusing to pay for such shite and demand a rewrite from someone who has actually got some knowledge of SEN and the law, with decent, legal and innovative suggestions for improvements and if necessary reduced expenditure.

The thing that staggers me about the report is that this is not about the cost of therapy, education and provision but about transport costs!

Yes, I know that transport has an impact on the public purse (as per the recent much welcomed Court of Appeal findings IPSEA Press Release).

But really - reduce the number of Statements to save on the transport budget?? Shock

And also issue more bus passes?? Soon we'll be having 7+ year olds SEN children walking up to 10 miles to school because there is no SEN provision locally, no buses because they've all been cut, and no school transport services!

OddFodd · 02/05/2014 13:00

Of course it's not about cutting services! As if this government has any kind of track record in that kind of this [tsk] Hmm

OddFodd · 02/05/2014 13:01

thing

I will be interested to know how they propose to get my DS to school. Perhaps he could have a walking escort. It would take them about an hour to go a mile but I guess if they left early enough, it would be okay

ouryve · 02/05/2014 13:19

Our LA would have to save money on the costs of DS1's 90 mile round trip by, ooh, dunno, boarding?

OddFodd · 02/05/2014 15:52

There you go ourvye! Problem sorted :)
