So I'm officially a Home Educator :O

After my meandering, indecisive, hand-wringing thread, I thought I'd update you all to say that I deregistered DD2 today!

So we are officially Home Educating her. Today she's been with Daddy to the Barber's shop to watch him have a hair cut, bought some lovely flowers and a card for her teacher, watched the baby coots from the bridge over the village pond, visited Nanny and Grandad and generally enjoyed being stress-free.

After school she took the flowers and card to her teacher and wished her a lovely trip tomorrow (she was due to go on a school trip tomorrow but decided that it wasn't worth having to go to school for another day just to get a trip to a country park).

I'm hopeful that she'll start to relax now. Thank you all for listening to my rumblings - it really helps to share it with People Who Know.

Welcome to the dark side

I'm SO chuffed for you! You'll have a marvellous time Grin

That's fantastic!
This thread's making me want to take DS out of school right now instead of waiting to see how he does in yr 1.

Ahh this morning was so stress free!

We took DD3 to school, then went to DD2's old classroom to hand in her books. Her teacher hasn't told the children yet that dd2 won't be back, so she's asked if DD2 can come in to say goodbye and we'll make the class a card. Then we came home and created DD2's blog. Then Mum and Dad invited her to go shopping with them in Sainsbury's, so she's out right now.

This afternoon we're going to an adventure play ground which gives the HE group exclusive use on a Wednesday afternoon. Then after school we're meeting DD3's old preschool friend, who is HE, at the park. He's also there this afternoon but it will give DD3 a chance to join in.

Well the park was good! Lovely people. Around 20 children ranging from 2-8, I reckon. A big indoor area where they can paint/draw/chill out, then the outdoor area is huge. Sand everywhere, a fast-flow tap to make rivers and and generally get soaking, huge slides and climbing frames. They get milkshake and we get tea/coffee. Just a 50p donation in the kitty per family. A few spats with DD3's friend, but just learning to rub along together, and a near miss for a visit to A&E big bump from falling off a climbing frame.

Now a bit of a chill out before leaving to get DD3 and cousin from school, then dropping cousin to Nanny and Grandad's and having a quick visit. After that, to a different park with DD3's friend (that was there this afternoon), then drive to pick up DD1 from KIDS, which DD2 hates but it has to be done.

Wow lougle

I love the fact you just decided at 8.20am. I think that proves it's the right decision. Sounds like she's having a fab time and getting loads out of it.

DD1 has apparently been very unsettled at school today. She went to gymnastics last night and this morning was almost sobbing with a sore back, but it seemed to resolve before school and she went off happily. The teacher has written a note to say she's been very out of sorts and saying she's thinking of Mummy. They think it's because DD2's at home. Hopefully it's just a blip. She knows she's at a great place and loves it there.

I am glad it is going so well. Hopefully dd1's problem will be short lived as she loves her school.

At 8.20, DD2 still wasn't dressed and was getting more and more stressed about it all. I finally said 'Look, if you want to learn at home, that's fine, but you need to tell me now and get dressed either in school clothes or home clothes now.' She asked if she could miss school that day, go back to school for her school trip and then not go again. I said no, it's very rude and you can't pick and choose. She said 'can I go to the place they're going to without them?' I said 'yes, of course, it's just a country park.' She then said 'Great, I'm a home learner from now then.'

So there you go!

Thanks for the app tip.

Honestly? Today wasn't fantastic. DD2 got really stressed about getting dressed and going to drop DD3 at school, then she had the wrong amount of shreddies in her bowl, etc., etc.

Tonight DD3 was in tears saying she wants to be a home learner because she was told off at school today.

All in bed now though.

Yes and to be honest, if she wasn't 'her' I would start to doubt my thoughts for the past couple of years. She hasn't settled well tonight - a bad dream about an olden days man with a sword chopping off her head, then general 'can't sleep', now tummy ache . DH is most unimpressed.

Ho hum, can't all be roses...

"But dd3, remember dd2 needed to do reception & year 1 before becoming a home learner" (& hope she'll forget you said it in 2 years)

lougle · 05/05/2014 07:32

What a cunning plan....I like your style!
