salt not forthcoming with report

Salt formally tested dd's language skills a few month back. I have asked for a copy of the report which I would have thought would have been written up ages ago. Salt doesn't seem willing to send me a copy - I don't want to go into too much detail but my questions are when your child is assessed by salt do you automatically get a copy of the report and am I legally entitled to see this report? Thanks x

My 5 yr old has been receiving salt for 3 years and has been assessed at least 3 times a year throughout that time. The only time I saw a 'report' was when they had to write one to support the LA in SA. It was rubbish and contained no results or details of tests they had carried out. At a recent appointment, the salt (I've had a number of different ones) was typing the results of that assessment into a computer. I asked for a copy and was told it was 'not policy' to give parents the results. I insisted and also asked for a print off of all former results ( otherwise how can I keep track of whether he's improving??). I was given them, but was asked not to say anything to anyone. The Private salt I used for SA also took issue with the lack of proper reports and the recording of results.

I'm a nursery teacher. Every time a child is assessed or reviewed, then both the parent and I get a copy of the report, together with suggested IEP targets and copies of any information sheets or resource sheets.

Hi dont I work in early years to but have not had the same experience as littlefish. We never see reports on the children who are recieving SALT and neither do their parents without a lot of chasing.

I have to constantly chase them to get any advice for the children I work with.

My own Dd3 has been assessed by the complex communication team in the same LA as I work and each time has recieved a very thorough report.

Who knows what goes on but I would chase it up.

Good luck Smile

I've had massive issues getting anything other than very brief verbal reports from SALT. I've taken it up before and the only time I have had a (positive) result is via our paed putting pressure on SALT to come up with a report, for him as much as me. I don't know how common it is, but unlike other departments we've dealt with, our SALT never seems to go beyond scribbling a few notes down in her file. They don't seem to ever develop into reports unless someone senior asks for them to!

our NHS salt always write a report on discharge, although I was never informed or sent any.
it was only when I did a formal request to NHS for all reports that I recieved them - some were 3 years old!
imagine my horror when I read that my dd had been given a diagnosis in the first salt report (3 years old) and I hadnt been informed Shock . they then went on to discharge her despite this severe diagnosis.
I can still remember the morning that I recieved the reports, I was in shock and was so angry.

Thanks everyone for your experiences - seems dismal in general then except for littlefish. I certainly intend to chase up x

Guess we are v lucky, our nhs salt wrote a report when she first assessed DS at age 2 and a bit, another brief update report a few months later, a 332 report to education when he got his official diagnoses and finally her report for the statutory assessment. Each time she sent us the reports without being asked!

I would also be chasing up, it's perfectly reasonable to want to see any reports!

Just request the whole file that way you get their notes (which are not always written up as a report) plus emails etc if they have given advice, also then there is a legal obligation to provide the records. Google requesting medical records and NHS info will come up explaining process.

Thanks again - wow Ahhh that is a fantastic service!

Agnes I did request all dd's records a few months back through the formal process and I did receive them - this particular report I want was done a short while after.

We are incredibly lucky with our SALT - we get a mini report after three sessions (over six weeks). I'd second a SAR to get all information on your DD.
