ADHD/ASD and noise

Hi,

My DS is very noisy first thing in the morning before he has his medication. This is not a big issue for me as we have been lucky enough to live in a house that is well away from neighbours.

We now need to move and realistically are looking at semis . I am very concerned about DS disturbing the neighbours and looking for ideas on how to tackle this. Behavioural strategies have very little effect when he has no meds in his system. The type of noise is general humming/chanting and some shouting out in excitement.

I am trying to think of solutions to this. So far I have thought of soundproofing his room or making him play downstairs, ideally in a conservatory or a room away from the main parts of the house.

Just wondered what other's experiences are of this and do I stand a chance of getting a disabled facilities grant for things like soundproofing a room?

We live in a terrace. Teenage girl next door says you get used to the noise, after a while Blush Neighbours on the other side are habitual early risers. Both sides have grandkids around a lot, anyhow, so tend to have equally lively households, much of the time.

It would be worth looking for houses where the staircases are on the adjoining walls, rather than external walls, if you need to buy an attached house - or look for link detached, as less of the house tends to be in contact with next door and there's often garages etc in between.
