Many of you know I was at CDC with DT2 2 weeks ago and it appears he is dyspraxic although can't get confirmed DX till school age on that one????

Well we return tomorrow for DT1 at 2pm. This one will determine whether he is to be ref to the autism specialist and I feel quite nervous about this one

hi im a good friend of jambutties, she has gone to the PILs for dinner after the assessment with her hubby and kids, the appointment was a bit of a let down for her and didnt go as she wished but i will let her fill you in on the finer detials herself.

Chhers ma dears

I went all prepared with all the "concerns" we had. Never really got the opportunity to say what we wanted- there was 4 pages of it.

They have said they are aware of the ASD signs although today looked a bit more positive and they understand life is difficult with DT1(try living with us to see how difficult)

He will be called back again on 4 months to see if there are any changes.

Feel a bit let down to be honest, had it in my head that the refferal to the specialist(ASD) may go though today but obviously we have to wait even longer.

That may sound inconsiderate i don't know but all the uncertainty is driving me nuts. So many proffesionals he sees say Autism so why do we have to wait again?

He was also having a "good" day today so they didn't see the "real" person we deal with everyday

Sorry jambuttie that things didn't go to plan. As someone who had to wait 5 years for a dx of asd I can share your frustrations.
If your ds has traits then surely they should refer? This sit and wait policy really makes me angry.
I said it with my own dd, it was the journey we went on to get her dx that was harder than the actual dx itself.
When you know what you are actually dealing with it makes things so much easier IMO.

We have recently started on ths journey towards a dx with ds4. He's only 14 months but have already been told he is probably Dyspraxic. Currently awaiting chromosome test results but we are getting a lot of support, esp from physio and ot. Frustrating with one let alone waiting for dx for two LOs. I hope you get the answers you need soon.

jambuttie · 24/08/2006 20:40

thanks folks for your kind thoughts

megalegs dyspraxia is what his twin has although they said it wont be till school age before it gets a confirmed dx

if they know what they are dealing with they should act on it i think rather than wait
