DD too big for travel cot, what can I do?

My DD1 is nearly 3 and weighs more than the recommended age for using a travel cot. She can't walk yet and there's no way I could I just put her in a single bed, or even a bed on the floor as she would be very likely to roll off and not know how to get back on the bed.

We are going on holiday soon. I would dismantle her actual cot and take it with us but we won't have room in the car. Can anyone offer any advice?

Sorry should say 'more than the recommended weight'

It is helpful as at least I won't feel bad for still putting her in it if I know that's what most people do!

My DD (4) cannot walk. She sleeps in a single bed - used to have rails on but now not. If she ever fell out we would go in and put her back in. Now she can climb in and out herself.

When we go away we use a ready bed.

Sorry posted before I had finished. Meant to say, although she is 4 now, she went in to a single bed when she was 18 months.
Hope this helps.

Thanks everyone. Without any kind of bars I would worry about her escaping (she is a good crawler!). But I guess if she's asleep then that shouldn't be an issue. She does move about in her sleep a lot though and often rolls into the bars so would need something on the sides even if it's not very high. The airbed looks like it could work actually, and being so cheap it wouldn't be too much to lose if it doesn't.

moo what's a ready bed, do you mean just a normal single bed?

It's an air bed where the duvet is sort of integrated so it can't slip off.

If you got a 'my first' ready bed that also has a headboard thing that goes round that helps stop them rolling out.

I use them with all my DDs (all under 4) and none of them have rolled out

Hoping the link works! If not just search on amazon / Argos etc and it will come up.

www.myreadysetbloom.com/ I use this at home and on holiday. Not sure if she still ships to the uk but worth checking. I don't know how I would manage without our nickel bed tent

Sorry www.myreadysetbloom.com/ hope that link works

Ready beds are good because they come with a sleeping bag which is attached to the bed itself - she'd have to wriggle all the way out of the sleeping bag in order to fall out of bed.

It's a brand name - if you google "ready bed" you'll find them, or on amazon or ebay - I got a second hand one on ebay for about £5.

Have a look at fledglings.org.uk for inflatable bumpers

Thanks again, I've ordered a kampa airlock bed as recommended by ineedmore above. Fingers crossed she will be happy with it and won't try to escape!
