My dd starts school next sept. She is under SALT and was discussed at panel Jan this year. she has glue ear and is also under audiology. She has now seen ENT and will be having grommets in and adenoids out on waiting list will be 2 more months. She is at nursery and loves it there. She is trying so hard to talk and her understanding is excellent. She can say about 30 words.
I am pleased with the ent referral and think we are getting somewhere but am concerned at the panel. It's just a constant request for updates and more info and a case of left hand not talking to right I feel. I want dd to see a paeditrician or ed psychologist as am concerned at the lets wait and see approach. It seems to be focusing on giving dd support at school rather than helping her now. sALT has suggested makaton so I am going on course next month. Also, to really complicate things we will be changing area. I am too scared to tell them this in case the support drops off but will I have to start all over again in new area? Thanks in advance x

So are you moving to a new NHS Trust area? Is this before or after the operation? If you are moving Trusts then I'd advise for you to let your medical team know as soon as possible because hopefully they will make contact with the new Trust area and arrange for the transition to the new area. Or are you moving to a new school area - then you will need to let the local authority know as you will not be within catchment.

I would imagine that the EYFS is waiting for the outcome of the operation - once the gromits start to drain the fluid then your DD will be able to hear and will pick up talking with help from SALT. I developed glue ear at her age but could already speak. By the time the glue ear was picked up I couldn't hear a thing unless I could see a person's lips but after the op I quickly caught up. Just to confirm - is the glue ear the cause of your DD's deafness and speech delay?

Thanks for your reply jjx. Plan to move after op. Would be moving to midlands so definitely new nhs trust. yes glue ear has affected dd's hearing and possibly caused the speech delay. Nothing else has been mentioned.
