Ds is developmentally delayed. He is being retained next year so will start recept again in September, ct says he is actually working at a level below nursery. She has said that as things are we might have to talk about spec school unless they can get 1:1 statemented support ( he is currently on 20hrs). He has a brill salt and school have been really proactive and generally great - I do understand their negativity, there is a limit to how much he can be retained. I read about teaching methods forautistic children, is there anything like this we can looking into for my ds, even if it private. I do lots with him and I've always thought he just learns when he's ready but have any of you had any positive experiences with any other professional inputs. it's such a long hard slog and though a lovely, sociable, cheeky chappy he just seems to be getting sad (his world is such a confusing place. I would do anything for him.

I am sorry to hear that your ds is getting sad. All the effort you are putting in is helping, even if it seems that yourds doesnt look like he is progressing, he will be absorbing it all. I dont have any knowledge of teaching methods for autistic children. My ds goes to an intervention group and they do a lot of sensory play there, messy play. Maybe this would be good for your ds?

Thanks chocolate. I think I'm probably asking for something that doesn't exist. Ds is not autistic it was just the post from mums with asd dc that prompted me to ask if there is anything out there that i can access. when I've asked parent partnership, ed psych etc they don't really seem to know of anything to suit him. Is there any private services that may be of use?

You could take a look at ABA methods, and think about putting a home programme in place - either using yourself as tutor (which would reduce the costs significantly) or hiring tutors. I used an outside consultant (quite a hefty cost, at around £500 for the day - he came every 8-12 weeks) but again you don't necessarily need to, if costs are tight. I preferred having someone knowledgable overseeing where we were and next steps to work on etc.
