Hello,

I was wondering if anyone has any experience of any summer programs for dyslexic children to enhance their learning and also self esteem?

I see in the US there are many such camps that have lessons in the morning and adventure / activities in the afternoon. I see some great recommendations for this type of camp that they have really helped their children.

Anyway I have not been able to find any in the UK. Am I missing something?

Many Thanks.
Janet

Hi there folks

I've just heard of the Lindamood-Bell centre: www.lindamoodbell.com/about/ that provides summer camps....with amazing results. The enormous drawback is that they are very very very highly priced. But they have a discount until the end of the month for a test/assessment, lasting almost 4 hours long (with treats and prizes) of the child, with a follow-up meeting for parents.

It is an American process. I too have realised that only in the US they do things like summer camps. I have only just heard of this last week and called them immediately. We are going to book in an assessment test.

Having spoken to the director there, I understand that you don't get a diagnosis, but you do find out how your child can be helped to learn happily and succeed and which areas need covering and how.

A friend of mine's friend used this organisation for their child. They actually went through the entire school camp process for their child too - I suppose we would all do what we can for our lovely darling children and they made huge sacrifices. This family can't praise the org. highly enough as their child can now progress at an age related pace without any difficulties and is HAPPY. (so I'm told).

Hope this might help.

Best wishes
