OT Assesment

well whoopee-do, i got a phone call this morning to say that we have been allocated an OT to come and do an asessment on our house.
We have asked to be rehoused in a council property as our house has no garden for DS to play out in, we cannot let him play out on his own on the street as its not safe, and our bathroom is in a loft conversion and DD cannot get upstairs to it without one of us carrying her.
We have already been turned down by a housing association for having too much equity in our property but the council have accepted us onto their housing waiting list.
So, my question is what can i expect from the OT asessment?
I have already had a phonecall from social services grilling me on what i had put on the application form and they told me that they didnt need to be involved and that they were referring me to OT.

Thanks

sorry was about 9 yrs ago so can't remeber
what I would suggest is write a list of your house problems/needs.
remeber they are there to help you and will so don't be worried

Sorry only just seen this.We were assessed last month and i have toi say in all the assessmenst we have had it has been the most use,for once it wasn't about what his problems were or why he had problems it was all about helping him to findways of coping with his difficulties and everyday life.
We were sent some very comprehensive forms before the assessment for both us and school to fill in,then when we went to the assessmnet they had already read these and had made notes of areas they wanted to look into(this in itself amazed me,with nearly everything else we have had you have wondered why you had to fill forms in as they never seemed to read them.)Ds2was in one roomwith two really nice young OT s and I could hear him through the partition wall he didlots of differnt tasks with apparatus ,writing ,holding pencil (his problems are mostly to do with fine motor skills)I was with another OT and it was the usual history etc except that she was so positive.
They then went throug the initial impressions and said that they would need further assessment of perception ( we are going again on Friday)and that we would get a report,we got this about 4 weeks later. He will then get 10 sessions on a weekly basis which are goal orientated (this is the maximum they can offer in our area)The apppointment lasted about 1.5 hours but i really founf it heplful as it was very practical.

Obviously they are assessing your house not you or your ds but i suppose what I wanted to emphasis was how realistic and practical they were .
