Not really sure I have any advice, could you try chanting something else when she does? she might then pick up on your rhyming chant..??

How old is she?

my ds does the same thing but when he's colouring or concentrating on something - gets a sound and adds all different letters to it. Obviously occasionally when saying truck, buck, suck, luck, tuck, you will come a cropper with a fck! I change the sound to something else and usually he focuses on that instead. Tricky though, if you're out!

she'll be 4 in sept. its literally the ryming thing she likes.

back wack lack

gum bum yum

that sort of thing.

Well...obviously she is not using the word in a dereogative context, so I would try not to make a big fuss about it at the risk of making the word attractive. What about changing the ending for all the chanting? i.e. matt, latty, watty, patty, etc?

Mascaraohara · 14/08/2006 16:15

yeah my dd is just 4 she likes the rhyming have also heard things that sound rude or offensive but just ignore.. I think if you can help take the focus if 'paki' is being said a lot I'd try and change the sound that your dd is rhyming..

so from ending in 'i','y' to ending 'a' maybe.. abba cabba ladda etc

I hadn't noticed this was in special needs. I just thought it was something all children do at a certain age. Nothing to worry about I don't think.

tortoiseshell · 14/08/2006 17:50

Could you repeat it back slightly differently - 'back, lacki, wacki, patacki' or something like that? We've done that when occasionally ds and dd have come out with something like that.

misdee · 14/08/2006 19:53

sorry for putting it in special needs. dd1 didnt do this at all, and dd2 is a very steep learning curve.
