DS1 is 4 (August birthday) and in year R. On School Action Plus so he has a dedicated TA in the mornings, and comes home 2 afternoons a week, he is about to go full-time.
Having had several meetings with head/teachers/TA/Ed Psych etc. and being told that his needs are not complex enough, now the head is suggesting we go down the statement route. They have all been supportive, but we thought things were getting lots better this term (possibly naively I admit).
DH is sure having a statement will be like a millstone round his neck and will prevent him reaching potential - DS1 is very bright, though clearly socially lacking. DH also suspects this is all about funding, not what is best for DS1.
I want DS1 to get all the help he needs, of course, but don't want him labelled unnecessarily - saw paed last summer who didn't diagnose anything, so not sure what to do.
