Dh is the one that drives but the details on the form are all in my name / ds's name if we are awarded the higher and go for a mobility car will i have to learn to drive or will dh be able to get the car for us???

Many thanks in advance

The payment and blue badge, motability car etc are all in the disabled person's name. THat doesn't mean that they have to be a driver, they are very often driven by other people (e.g. most of us here who have children with disabilities).
In theory you should only use the blue badge and motability car when the disabled person is present and not for other trips without them. It is entirely manageable for the non-disabled driver not to use the blue badge but to park according to normal rules but it very much restricts use of the car for the non-disabled driver. I know most people tend to ignore that as its simply not practical to own a car that can only be used in very specific circumstances and not for day-to-day living. IMHO the rules are stupid and much of the rules related to transport seem to have been set up with disabled DRIVERS in mind. Its time they thought about the other, huge, section of disabled people this affects which, as I said before, are those who are driven by others. THis is the reason I haven't applied for a motability car or the road tax reduction.
Sorry this is so long winded, hope it answers your question though.

I was told that we could use our mobility car (for my son) as long as it benifits him, ie. going to and from work, shopping, even if he isn't with us. The DLA is all in my name, but when we got the car, DH was the named driver. I was put onto the insurance later when DH wasn't able to drive because of a knee injury, as I didn't have a full licence, my cousin was also put onto the insurance and I was allowed to drive the car with L plates on as long as he was sitting beside me.
Also Davros, you can apply for the free road tax for any car, not just a mobility car.

ANd I told that info by a lady at mobility

my sister had a motability car that she drove and my mum was insured on it too. She didnt actually find it that restrictive and went over the recommended mileage too but nothing was ever said.

I haven't looked into it for a couple of years but I really thought that, technically you're not supposed to use the car unless the disabled person is present although its usually turned a blind eye to. I may be wrong but this is the main reason I didn't consider it, also I'd rather have the money to pay for other things as I'd have a car anyway. I'll check out the road tax thing again and have another think about the car. Not that I'd trust anything the DLA people tell you on the phone one way or another!

dont forget though davros they pay for your insurance, tax and repairs if you have a motability car - plus you get a new car every 3 years Grin

says she who is far too lazy to sort one out for herself!!
