I will buy every book published by Jessica Kingsley Publishing (loads of SEN titles)....and force all the teachers at school to read them.....and then make them take an exam - so i can check they really did read them!!!!!

Anything in particular mrsforgetful. I try and check out the SEN threads when I can and pick up hints and tips, info and advise from you all in case need it in my job. I don't hav e children with any specific 'needs' as siuch at moment - just general learning difficulties, biut sometimes do. So any lists of titles would be good - and I can put a copy in my SEN file in my department too for everyone to see.

Jimjams · 12/03/2004 22:42

lol mrsf. remember now you are a member of aut-uk you get a 10% discount from Jessica

When I win the lottery I will pay for as much ABA and other therapies as we want. Maybe I'd start my own school.

coppertop · 12/03/2004 22:55

MrsF - Would you laminate all the pages and covers first?

Davros · 13/03/2004 11:10

I'd buy a beautiful villa with fab pool in the South of Italy. It would be totally safe, with lots of appropriate toys/materials and play equipment plus therapists, well trained babysitters and playmates who live nearby but not too near. We could all take turns to have a relaxing, safe holiday with our kids (bagsy August!)

hercules · 13/03/2004 11:12

I'm buying books for myself as a secondary teacher with money from gov. What would you recommend?

binkie · 13/03/2004 11:19

For Hulababy: I have just bought Liz Hannah's "Teaching Young Children with Autistic Spectrum Disorder" (Amazon link here ) because I saw reviews that said it was full of genuinely practical ideas not just for autistic children but for any who need behavioural/social/communication help (eg I wanted to find ideas for games to encourage ds's eye contact). But I'm not an expert, so perhaps views of others are needed?

Hulababy · 13/03/2004 22:59

Thanks binkie. Any extra reading we can do at school can only help. In our department we have a SEN folder with details of all our special children and their various diagnosis. So having references to books to go along side is really useful.

I am going to be doing supply after the summer so need to be really clued up on lots of stuff as I could encounter lots of different children every day.

if i won the lottery i'd be going private so dd2 wouldnt be waiting months to be seen at the hospital. (been since jan, not even a sign that the hospital has recieved referral letter). i'd also try and see if anyone can find a cure for DCM, if not then buy dh a mechanical heart.

if those things are sorted then i'd buy a big house out near one of the villages round here.

Eulalia · 14/03/2004 10:59

I want a lie in.... not much to ask. I really can't think of anything at the moment .....

popsycal · 14/03/2004 11:01

i would give up work

eidsvold · 14/03/2004 12:19

buy a holiday home on the coast ( north of where we will live in aus) Fly first class whenever we wanted to visit the inlaws.... and pay for private speech, physio and ot for dd.

Grommit · 14/03/2004 12:26

I am with Davros on this- lovely villa and pool but with a fulltime nanny!

Hulababy · 14/03/2004 13:43

I'd stop working too for a while at least.

Mind you I'd still keep DD in nursery a bit as well to give myself some time for me

mrsforgetful · 14/03/2004 15:00

POPSYCAL---no won't allow you to give up work....you are a teacher i seem to recal- and one that takes great interest in how you teach etc....so now....you cannot give up- so there!!!!

I would take my ds to swim with the dolphins in Florida
look for alternative treatments
and buy his school the best equipment possible.

I would also own a large mansion and get a titty job
travel the world but bring dh along as my personal luggage carrier

mrsforgetful · 14/03/2004 15:05

Hulababy- i'll compose a list and post it over the next day or so- i have now bought 4 books- and have borrowed several others from the library...I think it's brilliant that 1 publisher deals completely with this kind of thing!

JimJams...i forgot about the AutUk discount! How do i get it?
Also....i've not yet figured out how to even post on there!!!! I posted my 'introduction'...and get the digests daily....and 'Itch' to join in ...especially the 'adult autie' ones!
