And of course I was expecting Law of Davros

But NO! We are getting higher rate

IS there anybody we should be telling, please?

I think it's a bit crap actually- I used to work filling out grant forms and the like for a couple of major charities so I was OK, but the system should not be so badly skewed that you have to be a 'professional' to get help!! rant rant

But not ungrateful, we can replace the curtains Sam tore before the next house inspection and hopefully NOT lose this house (after the ast one) Hurrah for that

Anyone know a decent kids bank account? Never opened one before always too broke

Well done on your DLA Result. You're right - it shouldn't depend on how capable you are at form-filling, but that's the law of the DWP jungle.

J has an account with Bradford and Bingley. Not sure what the rate is but I like the fact that he gets a free book every year if he makes three or more deposits. Encourages him to save his pennies. You get a leaflet with the annual statement and you choose your book, and they post it on a few weeks later. Great incentive.
I think they give freebies for starting the account as well - last year it was Wallace and Gromit stuff.

great news

MarvellouslyMilitantPeachy · 12/08/2006 11:14

Wondering if I might go to the CAb and see if I can use my evident form filling skills to help them, or is that a bit arrogant?

you need to contact tax credits, though they may already know.

MarvellouslyMilitantPeachy · 12/08/2006 11:23

We told them and are getting the standard DLA extra amount now, BUT we are not going to tell them about the Higher bit because we dare not risk them stopping the claim again for so long, next time we'll be completely stuffed (DH went without food at work- I didn't know- three times this week). Sod that again, poor lads skinnt enough anyhow!

no no, tell them about the higher rtae. it gets you more.

MarvellouslyMilitantPeachy · 12/08/2006 11:37

genuinely, we can't. Bank closed DH's account for three weeks this month coz of WTC, we had to beg food from my Mum who is on benefits herself (she won't claim DLA for pride- tsk!- yet she can't walk 20 metres).

But thanks

they shouldnt stop your payments, all they have to do is check the box that says severe disability entitlement.

fairydust · 12/08/2006 11:42

when we first got awarded dla we told tax credits and it was updated automatically the money never stopped it was just upped

MarvellouslyMilitantPeachy · 12/08/2006 12:14

Last time we updated we didn't get paid for ages (told them 11th July, won't get another payment until 23rd August) and it messed up their PC so we now also have to get giro's instead

Brill news about the high rate?
How did you get it, we only get middle rate and low mobility for DS, at the time people on here suggested that we ask for a higher rate but i didnt want any more hassle, but DS is worse than he was last year.

MarvellouslyMilitantPeachy · 12/08/2006 18:30

Apparently it's because if he is unsupervised he is a danger to people- ie the fact that he has hospitalised both his brothers.

I keep feeling guilty that we have got it, but then Dh says about how he has coped with work so much better this week with Sam away, and the other twoa re much more relaxed (I of course haven't been, missing my boy!) and I can see the difference; also it's gonna take a fair proportion just to replace the curtains etc he ahs ripped.

When is your DLA reviewed? Did your ed psych chap puta statement in? Our paediatrician did a report for us.
