Ds and certain behaviours, anyone else?

My Ds watches the same cartoons over and over, he watches certain bits of it then rewinds and watches again and again. He also does this thing where he will insist I watch a certain part (which often I have seen 100 times already), he will not let me take my eyes off and gets cross and rewinds again if I glance away for a mili second. This happens umpteen times a day and per cartoon. What is this all about ? Is it part of his ASD or something else? Anyone else have a child that does this.
A newer thing is also to how watch everything with subtitles and audio which I presume audio helps him understand what is going on, what people are doing, etc and subtitles so he can read what they are saying as well as listen.
Anyone familiar with any of this, if love to know.

Ok so social interaction is possible but can be limited/restricted. I'm just trying to weigh things up in my mind. Looking to see if maybe the dx is incorrect although I very much doubt it tbh as Very obvious , not to everyone though. Ds is 7.5 frusso

My Ds has private dx of ASD (no NHS dx). He watches favourite scenes over and over and loves subtitles on at the same time as audio - and he's learnt to read loads from them. He takes in stuff better visually and has always been fascinated by symbols - numbers, letters etc anyway. He does play imaginatively - he invents as well as copies - although quite rigidly and mostly on his terms, and you're in trouble if you call him by his real name when he's in character - usually a wizard, or different animals, sometimes animals he's invented completely! He has lots of social difficulties, though, like reading other people, which make social imaginative play very difficult, so much so that he doesn't really manage that at school.

My ds does this also and he has a dx of asd.
Frusso- I liked the way you out " she flitters about in the spectrum"...
My first thought was, " oh, like a beautiful butterfly"....

julia does your Ds do his character roles at all with a friend my Ds does this with a friend ie they will play harry potter. He plays with one friend at sch but he doesn't like it when this friend wants to go and play something else so he then sits on his own. he hates playtimes and lunchtimes so much so that I think it is a big part of the reason I cannot get him to school anymore.

Yes, but only with his cousin at home, perhaps because he is so used to her and she's often happy to go along with what he wants. They like playing his room is their home and they are usually wizards living there together. He would not join in if she wanted to do something that wasn't one of his main interests. My ds goes into school mornings only, doesn't stay for after lunch playtime as cannot deal with it. Really sorry to hear about your school problems, Skylar.

Yes, ms. He's five. Considering registering for part-time home learning although head is ok with hours at the moment, while we are applying for statement. Lots of learning happening at home anyway - electronics set, computers, reading etc. Hoping that statement will mean more help and then more hours at school.

Skylar, it is a shame your ds and mine are not in the same year and school. Maybe they could have been happy being wizards together all day. Smile
