Can anyone tell me about work entitlements for parents of disabled children?
I have had a look at the childrens act 2002 but i cant see about taking time off to care for your children.

Am i right in thinking that you can have up to 18 weeks per child?

DH work are trying to make him work every weekend and have 2 days off in the week.

This is no good for us as its impossible for me to manage both DS (AS) and DD (CP) on my own all weekend.
Work are not willing to budge and are threatening DH with all sorts of disclipinary action if he doesnt comply.

Our union man is on holiday and we cant get through to the office and he wants to go in and see personnel on his return tomorrow.
Does anyone have any knowledge of this or could point us in the right direction?

Much appreciated

Jenk

Jenk- why is always me eh?

have been through this- we used the legiaslation RE flexible working to apply to DH@s work. You know the one about if you have chilsd under the age of six, you can apply to have flexible working hours? (Not sure how old your DD is though?) Sam obv. over five but DS3 under, so we did it in his name. They then have to give it consideration, give you answers in writing etc- but there is NO power to force them to do it, and if your application is refused and you have appealed unsuccessfully, you can't aplly fro a year after. However deffo worth a go. Dh's was upheld, though actually new manager completel;y refuses to acknowledge it- but the management have realised we are able to and will fight, so we have got some of the nenefiots asked for (ie Dh still ahs to do the extra unpaid shift theyr borught in each wek, but he doesn't have to work until 9.30, which was impossible for us to manage)

try ACAS they are best for these things

It's quite a well used law, just usually by women to go part time- can be used for this too though

I believe it applies to all parents of children under six and parents of disabled children under eighteen. Have a look here

There's some excellent guidance on the Working Families website
