Hi.
My DD is going to be referred to the Nuffield by our NHS SALT. She has speech problems, in that she cannot produce a lot of speech sounds and is very difficult to understand.

I was pleased when she told me and then DH asked why she was referred and what it would mean and I realised I didn't really know Blush.

I will ask her next week, but wondered in the meantime what others experiences had been?

Hi ds went there a few years back and they were really good he had an in depth assessment with a dr and a salt he had oral dyspraxia

Thanks autumnsmum.

I hope this doesn't sound too stalkerish, but I have noticed you and I think we might live in the same London borough. :)

Can I ask what was achieved with the diagnosis? I am going through the SA process at the moment and getting a decent SALT provision is something I am fighting with the LA over.

ThAts fine unfortunately it didn't achieve a lot ! They did suggest ds was on the spectrum which I had worked out the local lead had said no but she saw him a year later and said he was! He had a sounds group and was discharged in reception from salt. I live in the borough with forest in the name by the way

Yep that's where I live.

We have many pieces of paper with lots of writing which amount to not a whole lot of action. I am hoping it won't be another one of those. However at least people will have to take it seriously if we get a diagnosis.

Aha you will know whitefield school where dd2 goes then I have found the borough to be much better with dd2 than her brother

PrinceRogersNelson · 03/02/2014 21:34

Umm. No. I have never heard of that school. Blush
Is it good?

I don't think parents are given enough information about schools at all and what is available.

I asked the SALT today about Speech and language units and she said she would never make a recommendation to a parent about a school. So, how do parents know they are choosing the correct education for their children?

My DD is in mainstream.
