Statement for dd2

I sent off my letter today (special delivery) asking for dd2 to be assessed for a statement. I included a letter from her pre school and a detailed letter from me outlining all her problems.

Currently waiting for her consultant, nurse and gp to also write letters but I'm assuming I can submit them when I get them.

What will happen next? I'm clueless when it comes to statements and don't have much time on my hands due to other dcs problems so I'm finding it all overwhelming.
Will dd have to see anybody/have an appointment? How is it all done ?

The la will write to you and ask for more info then a decision if they will/won't assess will be given within 6 weeks

Thankyou.

What does an assessment involve? Is it a long process? I tried to include a lot of information with my request letter but am not sure what else I need to 'prepare'

Just sit back and wait for the LA's decision as to whether it will / will not undertake a statutory assessment.

If the LA says 'No' - then you appeal.

If the LA syas 'Yes' they'll do a statutory assessment. The LA will ask for written reports from you, the Community Paed, Ed Pysch, SS (if they are involved), school and anyone else you tell the LA to ask for advice from.

That should take 8 weeks?? (Bit rusty on the actual timescales).

The LA then decides whether to issue a Statement or not.

Nothing at all to prepare at this stage - just wait for the decision as to whether the assessment will be going ahead.

I can't believe I managed to get it done and posted today-all dcs were ill and at home!i literally took my chance when the baby had a nap then asked a friend to go to the po for me to get it sent special delivery.

The LA said it takes 26 weeks and dd starts school in 28 weeks slim cutting it fine.

Well congratualtions on getting the ball rolling.

You may get told 'No' so if you do, don't panic - just come back on here and see how to appeal.

Best wishes
