I want to remortgage and buy a caravan!!

Not sure why lol I just like the idea of picking the girls up from School on a frid, driving 45 mins and being at Wales in the caravan

Am I kidding myself?

Confined space? We would all be awake at 5.30 with Ellie!!! Although it would have 2 bedrooms, they would be so close to each other

will we regret it?

The Girls are nearly 5

If we have a tv/dvd player at least we could entertain them for a bit longer!

If it doesn't have central heating (newer ones do, but we would be buying a cheaper one) we couldn't put the gas fire on

what do you think? Neither dh OR MYSELF COULD ESCAPE AND HAVE 5 MINS IN ANOTHER ROOM!!!

Has anyone got any experience they could share with me

If Ellie didn't have SN I wouldn't be thinking twice about it. Grace will love it so much and so will Ellie

But the people in the next caravan!!!!! poor things!! They would have us evicted after a week!

Definately, have been considering the same - ds1 is 7, ds2 is 3 and asd, dd is 1. Couldn;t see any drawbacks just get a big awning.

Having a tent that he recognises as familiar really helps Sam, a friend with a similar ASD child gave up on holidays altogether but it works for us. and I think a caravan could well for you.

And presumably you'd get an awning? So you would have somewhere to go in fact. And then you'll develop chairs outside too- etc etc etc!

People in carvan and camping groups are Really understanding! Doubr there'd be an issue.

If you're really concerned about the noise go on uk campsite and post a question about it under the caravanning topic.

But you'll love it

go for it

It would be a static caravan, so I don't think we would need an awning

Depending on how much you pay for site fees you can end up with a small gap between caravans so maybe not room for one

But something to think about, Thanks

I am still not sure with the stress of our family life if we would cope. But I would love to give it a go...I think!!!!

That's also a consideration-ds2 is very uneasy in different surroundings, so this would be familiar - maybe your dd is the same.It would savelots of stress.

I say go for it! We took ds camping last year and I wasn't much looking forward to running around after him at the crack of dawn every morning. As it happened he slept beautifully because the fresh air knocked him out.

You can probably buy a safe little heater that's not gas (haven't been caravanning for years so I'm not up on 'modern' stuff - we had to light gas mantles to read by!), but we rarely used our gas fire anyway. Admittedly it was a touring van so a smaller space but we always found that just boiling the kettle to make tea was enough to warm the place up nicely. You can use hot-water bottles at bed-time if the bedrooms feel cold.

I'm not sure how much the neighbours would be able to hear because they shouldn't be right up against your caravan. By law they have to be a certain distance apart in case of fire.

I think it sounds like a brilliant idea, I'm sure you wouldn't regret it.

mum and dad have just brought a caravan near bournemouth.. it cost £50000 for 5 years.. its quite old compared to some of the newer ones on the site .. I mean the new ones have a dishwasher fgs... even I don't have one of them at home!... anyway its great.. they do have heating in...a lot of sites have good entertainment in the holidays... inside pool out side pool... diffent places to explore...Go for it, can't you tell were loving it.... (off tomorrow for 3 weeks) [biggest grin ever emoticon]

MumRum · 01/08/2006 21:06

good god.... I meant £5000 not £50000... I'd want a house for that... or a beach hut...

Jimjams2 · 01/08/2006 21:09

I would do it.

We are considering doing it (when ds1 stops blowing fuses flicking light- doesn't mix with caravans). The only potential problem we have is that ds1 couldn't play outside as there is no confined area, so would need an awful lot of supervision. If that's not a problem with Ellie then I'd go for it.

anniebear · 01/08/2006 21:51

wel obviously she would need supervision 100% of the time, but then again so would Grace

I won't be letting either out of my site for at least another 20 years

But yes, I do think we would be doing a fair bit of running after her, where as Grace would play happily just outside (with me!!)

we stayed in a caravan when I was preg with the girls

it was our last child free holiday together and at 6am every morning we heard the little boy in the next caravan running up and down it

thud thud thud thud thud thud

was awful!!!
