Hi

Bit of background ds was assessed for autism in nursery and was found not to be autistic but did show concentration and impulse issues. He was assessed both by the NHS and the education board psychologists (Northern Ireland)

In September he went to a different primary; his teacher asked me to come in the second week to discuss concentration and impulse concerns and give me his first iep. I received his 2nd iep last week and he has failed to meet any targets on the first.

I'm waiting to see if they will give him the review assessment I have requested but since the school have no allocations left its unlikely (kids in year 3 are just being assessed now who were suspected in year 1).

I have requested a meeting with the senco and ds teacher on Wednesday where I will find out if he is going it get the review.

This is all very new to me and I want to be prepared for the meeting but I'm not sure what questions I should be asking. Any ideas or peoples experiences would help greatly.

Do you have to go through the school for this or could you go via the GP for a referral?

Do not know the system in NI but here GP can refer to community or developmental paediatrician. In ds case we were given two sets of Connors assessment forms - one to give to school to fill in and one for us. Ds was diagnosed ADHD at 5 (later ASD and LD) but did not see the EP till 7 (as part of a SA).
