Keeping warm at night

How do you keep your special needs child warm? DS is 11 and has cp, dystonia and epilepsy. I've tried sheets and blankets but they are too restrictive if he wants to try and roll over and they don't really stay put, a duvet doesn't stay in place for more than 5 seconds, and we tried a sleeping bag but somehow he managed to get out of it! He is unable to sit by himself and I'm not sure what I can try next. If he kicks covers down the bed he can't pull them back up as he's got no control over his arms or hands. At the moment he sleeps in an oversized track suit with thermal long johns, lays on an all night electric blanket and has a heater on in his room all night.

Has anyone come across this particular problem and what did you find worked for you / your dc? I'll try anything to get him cosy, thanks in advance.

This is only a suggestion but would a Primark fleece onsie help for warmth? I don't have one but find fleece really warm and apparently they're on sale. Hope you find a good solution

Have you tried a double duvet and tucked one side under the mattress? What about an old fashioned counterpane or bedspread - the things your granny had. They're good at keeping bedding on a bed. John Lewis did them.

The gro company do those 'zip in' duvet covers that are attached to the sheet so can't fall off the bed. Never tried one so can't recommend but thought it might be worth a look for you?

Good socks as well?

We have an elastic strap with rubber clips that holds the sides of the duvet to stop the duvet sliding off. When ds (very mobile at night child with ASD/SLD) was younger I put it part way up the bed, now he has it near his toes, to stop him pulling it too high over his head. I think it came from the great little trading company, about 10 years ago so may not still be available.

Magso, I have a feeling I may have seen something like that in the JoJo Maman catalogue. So might still be able to get.

I think fledglings catalogue may do all in one sleep suits. M&S and Debenhams do fleece onesies which are softer than primark. Primark ones are cheaper tho.

Thanks all, there's some interesting thoughts to explore there Thanks

Sorry the elastic duvet strap comes from Jo-Jo Maman Bebe. No good at links. The clips come undone if the duvet is given a moderately sharp tug,

My NT child had to have a fleece sleepsuit as he kicked covers off all night.
