Epsom Salts in the Bath for ASD

Has anyone used Epsom Salts in the bath? A friend suggested that I try it for DS4 as he's developed a limp that nobody can work out how it came about. Apparently it helps restore damaged muscle tissue, and also helps the absorption of sulphur (I think!). Anyone with any experience with using it??

Sally how longs he had the limb for , can he remember what he was doing before it started . Is he able to weight bear on it .
Has gp check out out both his legs , and calf muscles to make sure he's not pulled or torn anything . It is very easy to do , not show up on any routine blood test .
The most effective treatment is rest , ice at time ( 48-72 hours afterwards) and maybe getting him referred to physio for strengthing exercises .
But you need them to check back of both his calfs , my son recently pulled his calf muscle took a while to settle down again.
Not saying this is what it is , as he needs it to be properly assessed , so I might be leading you up garden path , just you mentioned bloods etc on another thread , so needs looking a properly .

Sorry Sally you mentioned a fever in your the other thread , this wouldn't be case , as very unlikely to have fever with this type of injury.
You said been going on since Christmas , has there been no improvement , could you ask different gp for referral though to orthopedics .
Did he get seen in a&e initially , or just your gp , would walk in services refer you on , especially if he's still limping nearly four weeks later.

Thank you Homework - we have just seen the GP. She wants to see him again in a week. All examinations have proven to be fine, but he is still limping and dragging his leg. She will decide next week if we need to see orthopaedics. He is non verbal and has a very high pain threshold. The limp is worse with inactivity, as it's like he walks off the limp when he's on his feet for a long period of time. The limp is worse than it was before Christmas. He was also very unwell for weeks, but is now slowly getting back to his usual self, bar the limp. The full blood panel was unremarkable and other than waiting for the coeliac result, I am still concerned that there was/is something going on.

Sally just had another though , could he maybe be suffering from form of juvenile arthritis , explain why doing crp as this also an inflammatory marker , sometimes one limb more affect than rest especially in children .

Please , please Don't taken any of this as case please you need a proper referral , but also don't just get fob off either . For this to be going on for so long in a non verbal child there is most definitely something going on.

Does he toe walk? Ds1 toe walks and was limping for a while around Xmas and we had to massage his calfs and do some stretches, that seemed to help. Sorry no help with your original question.

SallyBear · 24/01/2014 15:04

He does toe walk, and perversely since the limp has gotten worse he's walking flat on both feet! Grin Never thought I'd see the day Prof!
