Car seat advice

We need to get DD a new car seat. We currently use a bog standard britax which fails miserably to keep madam comfy or contained.
The details are : DD is 3 (! How did that happen)!
She has very low tone but a very strong will to slip out of any regular harness straps- she's so super mobile she can bend and squirm out of most things. She needs to be forward facing.
Her buggy and chair at home have lateral supports and lap straps.
Any recommendations, advice or an idea of where we would go and try some seats out would be most appreciated. We live in South London.

I'm sorry I can't recommend a car seat but I know you can buy them for children with additional needs with pommels, lateral supports etc. probably pricey as everything specialist tends to be. I'm sure someone on here has some experience and some good advice to share but just wondering if you have a physio or an OT that could recommend something suitable.

Thanks for your reply, our OT cannot advise us on a car seat choice as it's not funded by the PCT. I have been given a supporting letter to help me get funding if necessary. I'm scouring the web and have found a recaro sport car seat that has lateral supports that I think looks good.... But I am struggling!

You could try going o the InCar Safety Centre in Milton Keynes. They are specialists in car seats, and have a good range of seats to try out (and they're very patient! Last time we went we spent 4 hours trying out different car seat combinations!) They may be able to advise over the phone too ( we had to visit as we had space issue an so needed to be there to try out the seats in our car)

It may be too far away but the In Car Safety Centre in Milton Keynes can offer appointments where children with special needs can try car seats in your car. Their phone number is 01908 220909. If you have a Paediatric OT they might be able to tell you if there is something similar locally.

Thanks NewBlueCoat and GRW. I will call them tomorrow and see if they have anything closer to me and if not make a date to travel up there. Our OT can offer no further advice on the matter.
