Looking for info on headwear protection: recommendations and/or retailers

I have a 2.5 year old DD with spastic cerebral palsy. She has recently found her feet and loves to be mobile, but is very unstable and has frequent falls. Indoors she can walk short distances (20-30 steps) unsupported, but outside she is just too unstable so we hold hands.

With the cold weather closing in, I'm getting concerned that she'll want to play outside in the snow, or walk outside when it's frosty and icy. With her instability, these conditions are even more dangerous.

I'm looking for some recommendations for some protective headwear. It's just overwhelming on google. I asked in Intersport if they did ski-wear head protection for 2 year olds (saw adult ones on the shelf), but sadly not that young. I don't know what I'm looking for: winter sports head protection or something designed for SN?

Although I'm happy to buy whatever she needs, would this be something the OT could advise on/supply? Do the NHS supply such items? Neither our OT nor physo has mentioned it, but I have an OT appointment next week and would like to approach the issue if this is relevant to their field.

Any advice, recommendations or links are all really welcome Smile

There are helmets for children with epilepsy that can be used, but TBH we never did. We trialled knee protectors and cycle helmets but it was all too much of a faff as DS got very annoyed with them all. We are, at nearly 9, just regulars at NHS walk in clinics or A and E with minor head injuries that need checking out or occasional gluing.

DS, also sd CP, was bumped into in Tuesday in the playground, went straight over into the back of his head, blood everywhere, but he's back at school and fine, I'm more wobbly and have spoke to Physio about I culdobg more saving mechanisms into our Physio routines!

Flowers for LittleHairy. Hope DS is doing fine. Yes, our dd has few saving mechanisms, and her head does seem to get bumped quite frequently. If she goes down, her head will hit the floor. I get the same feeling that she'll hate it and not want to be different from her friends and think its a faff. I expect if we get one it might not last long. Thanks for your reply and a been-there-done-that perspective :) really appreciated x

Would these work? Lots of interesting colours and patterns.
