Free nappies

My three years and six months year old grandson has difficulties talking and communicating. He also has been talking meds for ages to help his bowels, either he is constipated or goes too often. I doubt if he will be toilet trained in the near future. My question is - will he be able to get nappies on the NHS? He uses far more than any other child of the same age, due to his inability to control his bowels.

maybe, its a postcode lottery. Here the child has to be over 4 to get free nappies. for a medical condition the rules may be different.

sorry should have said to ask your health visitor about them

It's over 4 here, too, and it has to be day and night incontinence, not one or the other.

In my area it's four as well

Hedgyhoggy · 17/01/2014 22:33

Supposed to be 4 here too but I'm not hearing much about getting them with a 4.6 ds incontinent

Here it is earlier than that. DD gets free nappies but she only got them when we were going through the assessment process. Someone has to do a conti ence assessment to get them for you.

4 in Northern Ireland too, although DS was almost 6 before they agreed to sort an assessment out for us.

It's 4 years old here too, although no assessment needed. I just rang them up, told them DS has ASD and is incontinent. They sent me 3 sample nappies to try, and when I confirmed that they fit ok they sent me 3 months worth. It's a nightmare trying to store them.

Raffle the lovely health visitor told us we weren't trying hard enough ASD, ADHD and NF1 did not cause incontinence. The brain lesions should have no bearing on it apparently. Our neurosurgeon thought she was nuts.
