Hi there,my son is 7.5 and has Dyspraxia and we are waiting for assessment for Aspergers. One of the things that really affects him is his lack of concentration at school. His work output is really poor although the content of the work is very good.School are being very helpful and supportive but have said that they may come a time where he will have to stay in at lunchtime to catch up with work.Any pressure applied and he goes to pieces.
So my question to you all is does anyone have any experience of supplements/vitamins/natural remedies that could help my son's concentration and focus?

many thanks

Oily fish won't do any harm, they're of proven all round nutritional value and may be specifically useful for this condition.

Hi, I don't know anything about supplements, but I'm horrified that his teachers are suggesting that he might stay in at lunch to complete work. That would be punishing him for having a disability. I'd sit on them hard if they suggest that again. It's their job to set work that's do-able for him, or to manage the environment so he can concentrate better.

Btw my son (8, dyspraxia) wears ear defenders sometimes, or works just outside the classroom for independent work. Seems to help with the concentration. Plus he takes a little walk around the playground every half hour or so. If you haven't already read it, 'The out-of-sync child' is good for explaining why children with dyspraxia might struggle to concentrate, and what strategies may help.

Vorpent, thanks for replying. Whether it makes any difference it was said in a gentle way and not at all in a "you must stay in at lunch" way if that makes sense. I do get where you're coming from though and I will monitor it closely.
I've heard if that book and will get it. Thanks a lot for your ideas, please keep them coming!

The brain food plan book written by robin pauc (tinsley house) is a great place to start. Basically, he recommends you cut out all refined carbs, sugar and other junk to be replaced by lean protein and plenty of fruit and veg.
The supplements he recommends are vegepa chewables from igennus (there is a link and a discount code on the tinsley house clinic website. Also, floradix kindervital and saludynam. On top of these my ds has behaviour balance DMG from detox people. My ds is also 7 with dx of asd/PDA and ADHD. HTH.
