Ds received a dx of occolomotor defiencies type II when he was 5. Which meant that his ability to track as for reading and writing was extremely inaccurate and very slow.
The test for this was lots of small printed letters, closely together. Ds found it extremely hard.
However he had no difficulties with reading at age 5, as the text was big and well spaced, with not much text on a page. He has a very advanced reading age.
Now he is 9, the text is much smaller, more on a page etc and he is struggling to read in school. Sometimes he cannot read some words at all. He compensates by moving his head very close to the text, which results in headaches and him feeling sick.
Ds complains of;-
Blurred letters or words
Letters which move back and forth on the page and get bigger and smaller
Headaches/sickness from reading
He cannot read at all from interactive white board and is sensitive to bright lights.
He cannot read at all from the normal white board if the teacher uses certain colour pens.
He cannot do 'joined up' handwriting and his writing is immature for his age, although not terrible. He still reverses some letters, uses capitals in the middle of words etc.
Does this sound like dyslexia? More importantly would a dx of dyslexia make any difference?
At the moment his dx of eye disorder, recommendations of tracking magnifier and enlarged text is the help available.
